PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Armando Gracie (ranked 2677 p4p, 338 weight class) and Steve Lucas (ranked 5221 p4p, 567 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by America Fuck Yeah. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Armando Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Lucas!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Ackerman and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lucas shoots in but Gracie avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Gracie is trying to drag Lucas to the mat but Lucas just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

I was talking to Gracie's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lucas can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Lucas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gracie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lucas manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gracie has Lucas in his guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Gracie closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lucas knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lucas is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Lucas is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gracie off and has taken his back!
Lucas is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Lucas gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Lucas gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Lucas apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Lucas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lucas is working Gracie over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Steve Lucas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Lucas moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Steve Lucas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lucas has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
