PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barry Butcher (ranked 943 p4p, 115 weight class) and Tyson Cobb (ranked 1264 p4p, 159 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Cobb's choice of entrance music: Redman - Time 4 Sum Aksion. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Barry Butcher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyson Cobb!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butcher doesn't manage to clinch there - Cobb circles away.
Butcher blocks a jab.
Cobb scores with a nice head shot.
Butcher seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Cobb misses with a two punch combination.

Butcher darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cobb wants to get back to his feet.
Butcher missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Butcher lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Butcher looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Butcher not doing much here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Butcher stalling away here and it's allowed Cobb to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Butcher throwing strikes from guard but Cobb blocks nicely.
Butcher pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cobb is keeping the position for now.
Butcher will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Butcher is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Butcher trying to control but Cobb is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Butcher is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cobb is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Butcher drops back looking for a leg! Cobb is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cobb manages to kick Butcher off! Butcher jumps back into Cobb's guard.
Butcher throws a big right hand that misses.
Butcher is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Butcher trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Butcher postures up in Cobb's guard and throws a big left but Cobb blocks it.
Butcher is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Butcher advances position into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Butcher cracks Cobb with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Cobb is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Butcher asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Cobb really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Butcher. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Butcher working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Butcher thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Butcher is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cobb is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Butcher trying to control the position but Cobb is working away.
Cobb tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Butcher putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Butcher is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Cobb can't stay in a position like this for much longer.


It looks like Tyson Cobb has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Butcher scores with a couple of good head shots there.


That has opened up Tyson Cobb's cut even more.
Cobb takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barry Butcher dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Tyson Cobb's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Cobb misses with a body shot.
Cobb's coach down at Omerta MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Cobb's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Butcher will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Cobb cracks Butcher with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Butcher looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Cobb finish him?


It looks like Barry Butcher has been cut.
Butcher tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cobb sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Butcher somewhat.
Cobb swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A combination from Cobb does no damage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Butcher misses with a hook.
Butcher blocks a jab.
Butcher tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cobb manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Butcher dives in for a single leg takedown but Cobb sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Barry Butcher. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cobb drops Butcher with a naaaaasty hook - Butcher is in real trouble here! Cobb dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tyson Cobb!
Tyson Cobb spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
