PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robin Tuck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Dio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Robin Tuck!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Dio!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tuck moves in looking to clinch but Dio pushes him off.
Tuck takes a swing at Dio's ribcage but misses.
Tuck tries to clinch up.
Dio is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tuck sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Tuck seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Dio bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Dio is looking for the big counter here.
Tuck circles away from the clinch attempt.
Tuck wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
A left and a right from Dio both land. Nice combination.

Tuck misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Dio has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Tuck avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Dio drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Tuck gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Tuck is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dio is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Tuck to the mat. Tuck regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Dio is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Tuck is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Tuck has escaped and now he's on top!

Dio postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Tuck wants to get back to his feet but Dio is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dio accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dio with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Tuck is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dio throws a strike but Tuck rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Dio wants to sweep here but Tuck controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dio looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Tuck passes into half guard.
Tuck controlling the pace.
Dio has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tuck is working away from the top position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dio is holding on to half guard well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Dio will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Tuck darts in and clinches Dio up against the cage.
Dio drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tuck pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dio lands a two punch combo.
Tuck tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dio paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Tuck instigates a clinch.
Tuck prevents a takedown attempt there.

Dio turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Dio manages to end up in side control.
Tuck tries to buck Dio off but Dio is having none of it.

Dio tries to score with some ground and pound. Tuck controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Dio is looking to take a break and control but Tuck is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Dio sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Tuck is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
What's Tuck going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Tuck seems a little lost for a moment, as Dio dominates the positioning.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tuck can't do much from the bottom here.

Dio tries for a kimura but Tuck is defending well.
Tuck is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Dio is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Tuck reverses the position - he's now on top in Dio's guard.

Dio lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Tuck wants to sweep but no luck.
Dio loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Dio wants to control from the top but Tuck keeps moving.
Dio works over Tuck with some ground and pound from guard.

Dio's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Tuck is pulling down on Dio's head. It's preventing any offense from Dio, at least for the moment.
Dio slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Dio has taken the fight to the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tuck throws a punch but it's blocked by Dio.
Tuck gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Dio.

John Dio showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Dio has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Tuck after a bit of a struggle.

Dio has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Tuck avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Dio has Tuck pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Tuck manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Tuck works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Tuck presses Dio against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Dio has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Tuck is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A nice right hand lands inside from Tuck.
Tuck lands a hook that snaps the head of Dio backwards.


Dio is rocked!
Tuck lands a big right hand that drops Dio! The killer instinct kicks in and Tuck finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Tuck!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robin Tuck!
