Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Satoru Takada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Damiao Marcos!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Viktor Lagutenko and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marcos swings away with a body shot that misses
and Takada counters with a nice uppercut.
Damiao Marcos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Takada bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A little feinted left hand from Takada on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Marcos throws a sloppy head kick
letting Takada counter with a right hand.
Marcos is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Takada.
Marcos swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Marcos throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Marcos misses with a body shot.
Takada scores with a sloppy right hand. Marcos should have avoided that one.
Marcos wants to clinch
and Takada counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd cheers as Marcos lands an impressive looking overhand right. Takada doesn't seem phased though.

Marcos has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Takada after a bit of a struggle.

Marcos is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Takada can't fight it off and eventually Marcos manages to take the fight to the floor. Takada looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marcos controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Marcos chips away with some ground and pound.
Marcos trying to control the position from guard on top but Takada is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Takada is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Marcos controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Marcos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Takada swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Marcos lands a leg kick that knocks Takada off balance momentarily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Takada keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Marcos.
Takada is looking to counter punch.
Marcos throws a lazy uppercut
and Takada makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
A head kick from Marcos lands but Takada takes it in his stride.

Takada lands a lovely overhand right.
Marcos throws a body shot but no joy.
Takada swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Marcos darts in trying to clinch
and Takada counters with a stiff right hand.
Marcos lands a nice hook to Takada's body. Takada takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Marcos fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Takada manages to avoid it.
Takada slaps away a takedown attempt from Marcos, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Takada seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Satoru Takada will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Takada takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Marcos tries to land a front kick but Takada steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Marcos motions for Takada to come forward. Marcos throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Marcos bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Marcos tries for a kimura but Takada is defending well.
Marcos postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Marcos tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Takada knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Marcos on the ground.

Marcos is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Takada knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ground and pound from Marcos seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Marcos wants to control for a moment but Takada uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Marcos seems to be looking for submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Takada is looking to control Marcos's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Takada avoid being mounted?

Marcos is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Takada is just riding it out for now. Marcos eventually gives up the hold.

Takada is refusing to be controlled, as Marcos sits in half guard.
Marcos is taking a breather. Takada says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Marcos working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Takada's thigh. Takada counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Marcos is looking to work some ground and pound but Takada has wrist control.
Damiao Marcos has got the better of the ground game so far.
Takada is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Takada misses the jab.

Marcos uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Damiao Marcos seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Marcos fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Takada avoids it really well and circles away.
Marcos misses with a lunging right hand
letting Takada counter with a right hand.
Takada with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Marcos to score with a decent uppercut.

It looked like Takada was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Damiao Marcos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Takada doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

A quick step to the side and Takada tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Takada cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Marcos lands with an overhand left.
Marcos lunges at Takada with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Takada's hand.

Marcos dodges the punch combination from Takada.
Marcos shoots for a double leg takedown but Takada sprawls well. He's pushed Marcos's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Marcos throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Takada swings away with an uppercut that misses.
I was talking to Takada's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Marcos is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Takada is defending well.
Marcos drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Takada gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Takada is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Satoru Takada.
I think Takada has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
