The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomez with a poor takedown
and Tromp counters with a series of strikes. Gomez will be more careful next time no doubt.
Gomez shoots for a double leg takedown but Tromp sprawls well. He's pushed Gomez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tromp displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gomez.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tito Gomez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gomez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Tromp unleashes a big counter combination but Gomez bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
A swing and a miss from Tromp.
Gomez attempts a counter takedown but Tromp avoids it well and moves away.
Tromp throws a right and a left that both miss.
Gomez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tromp as he avoids it easily.

Gomez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Gomez is looking to work some ground and pound but Tromp has wrist control.
Tromp wants to sweep but no luck.
Gomez wants to control from the top but Tromp keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tromp can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gomez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tromp dives on top into guard.

Gomez is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Tromp frees his head nicely. Oh but Gomez has switched to an armbar! Tromp is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
