PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Musta Laine (ranked 29 p4p, 5 weight class) and Lao Shin (ranked 24 p4p, 4 weight class). Laine comes into the arena with Disturbed - Sound of Silence blaring out of the sound system. Shin has chosen Shaolin Chamber of Death as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Musta Laine!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Lao Shin!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laine throws a leg kick but Shin checks it.
Shin is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Laine with a body shot.
Laine throws the kick towards the body but Shin avoids it.
Shin looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Shin keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Laine is defended easily by Shin.

Laine shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Shin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Laine in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shin controls Laine momentarily but Laine frees himself.
Laine has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Shin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Laine haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Shin controls Laine momentarily but Laine frees himself.
Laine postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Shin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Laine defends well.

Laine throws a big right hand that misses.
Laine with a nice head shot there.
Laine chips away with some ground and pound.

Shin has his foot on Laine's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Laine works his way back into a safe position though.

Shin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Laine can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Laine cracks Shin with a solid left hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Laine wants to control from the top but Shin keeps moving.
Our spies down at at Dr Hatsumi's Clinic inform us that Shin has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Shin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Laine gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Laine stands up over Shin, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Shin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Laine defends well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Shin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Shin working a defensive guard but Laine passes into half guard.
Laine thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Laine tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shin knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Laine slips a nice elbow through Shin's hands, connecting with Shin's forehead.
Laine seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Laine lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shin keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Musta Laine dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Laine throws out a loose jab but Shin uses good head movement to avoid it.
Laine is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shin can do to turn this around?
A slapping leg kick lands for Laine.

Shin rushes Laine and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Shin lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Shin swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Laine changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Shin fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Laine avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Shin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Laine lands with a hook. Shin tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Shin throws a wild body kick that Laine sees coming a mile off.
Laine blocks a head kick by Shin.
Laine is looking to counter punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Laine throws a right and a left that both miss.
Shin lands a nice hook to Laine's body. Laine takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Shin pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Laine fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Laine scores with a jab to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Laine fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Shin.

and Shin counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Laine bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Shin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Shin is not content to let Laine control the position.
Shin is trying to work for a sweep but Laine has mounted him!

Laine tries to control but Shin wriggling away.
Shin wants to hold on but Laine pushes him away.

Laine landing strikes, looking to finish!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Laine prevents Shin from improving his position.
Laine is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Shin is trying to maintain the position but Laine is very close to passing his half guard.

Shin looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Laine is looking to take a break and control but Shin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Laine lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Shin on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Shin misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Shin is looking for a sweep. Laine is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Laine is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Shin!
Laine is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Shin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Shin in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.


Shin is rocked!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Laine! Shin is hurt baaadly! Laine is firing away with more strikes - Shin is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Musta Laine!

Musta Laine tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
