PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Potter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk comes to the cage accompanied by Deadwood. Alexander Potter has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 1, fighting out of London, Thomas Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Potter!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Potter crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hawk - the referee stops the clock and Potter gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hawk. Potter manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Hawk looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Hawk with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Potter to score with a decent uppercut.
Hawk tries to score with a low kick but Potter moves his leg out of the way.
Hawk misses with an uppercut. Potter saw that one coming.
Potter tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hawk swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hawk was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Potter tests Hawk's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Hawk throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Hawk backing away here, and Potter unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Potter moves forwards but Hawk connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Potter shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hawk manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Potter working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Hawk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Potter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Hawk is working hard here to advance position.

Hawk is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Potter is aware though and is defending well.
Potter wants to control from the top but Hawk keeps moving.
Potter passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Potter gets to mount! Hawk was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Hawk taking shots to the head.
Hawk might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Potter landing strikes from the mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hawk tries to reverse the position but Potter maintains control.
Hawk sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Potter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Hawk tries to roll over but Potter keeps him under control.
Potter frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Potter takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Potter with shots to the head and body - Hawk looks very uncomfortable down there.
Hawk tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Potter postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hawk looks a forlorn figure.
Potter lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hawk hang on?
Potter is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hawk can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Hawk is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Potter quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Potter but it's paid off an Hawk is forced to tap! Nice work by Potter.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Alexander Potter!
In defeat, Thomas Hawk stepped up to the mic, saying '/face-palm I will be back for you.'.
