Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jay Kulina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Trenchard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Kulina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Trenchard!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trenchard shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kulina as he jumps to the side.
Kulina tries to counter by clinching up but Trenchard breaks away and moves out of range.
Trenchard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kulina tries to avoid it but Trenchard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kulina to the ground. Kulina escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Trenchard fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jay Kulina has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Trenchard.

and Kulina holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Trenchard is trying to drag Kulina to the mat but Kulina just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Kulina throws a punch but it's blocked by Trenchard.
Kulina keeps control of Trenchard as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Trenchard tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kulina defends well and Trenchard ends up having to push Kulina into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kulina is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Trenchard.

Kulina digs a right hand underneath Trenchard's ribcage. Trenchard let out a lung full of air as it connected.

I was talking to Kulina's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Trenchard wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Trenchard has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kulina avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
