Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bubba Gumption (ranked 51 p4p, 2 weight class) and Sebastiaan Rutten (ranked 62 p4p, 3 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gumption misses with an uppercut
and Rutten counters with a nice body kick.
Gumption looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Rutten throws a big counter head kick but Gumption avoids it with no problem.
Gumption looks to score with a jab to the body but Rutten is just out of range.
Rutten steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Gumption misses with a hook.
Rutten follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Gumption misses with a left hand
and Rutten cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Gumption lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Rutten takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Gumption misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rutten looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Gumption has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Hart Family Dungeon in the buildup to the fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rutten lands a big head kick that sends Gumption tumbling to the mat! Rutten takes a step backwards and waves Gumption back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Bubba Gumption has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gumption looks for the body kick but Rutten saw that one coming.
Rutten throws a fast counter high kick but Gumption manages to duck under it in time.
Gumption lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Gumption throws a hook but Rutten blocks it.
Gumption looks to throw the jab but Rutten is out of range.
Rutten staying out of range there.
Bubba Gumption seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rutten has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Gumption finds it's way round the side to connect with Rutten's head.
Gumption rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Rutten counters with a crisp right hand that drops Gumption! Rutten lets Gumption back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

Gumption moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Gumption missing with a left hand there. Rutten was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gumption uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Gumption misses the jab.
Rutten only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Gumption swings for the body but Rutten moves out of range.
It seemed like Rutten was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Gumption fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rutten manages to avoid it.
Rutten steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

The crowd cheers as Gumption lands an impressive looking overhand right. Rutten doesn't seem phased though.
Gumption fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Rutten looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Gumption tries a head kick but it misses.

and Rutten counters with a nice body kick.
Rutten moves away from the strike by Gumption.
Rutten thinks about the counter body kick.
Rutten gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Rutten checks the leg kick nicely there.
Gumption lands a nice shot that snaps Rutten's head back.

Gumption connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Rutten is rocked!
Rutten drops his hands momentarily. Gumption doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Rutten staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Rutten doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
