PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Chewster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ace Rob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joseph Chewster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ace Rob!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Bruno Lombardi and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rob throws a lazy right hand but Chewster sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Chewster drops down looking for a counter takedown but Rob sprawls and moves away.
Rob closes this distance looking for a takedown but Chewster circles away.
Rob throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Rob catches Chewster with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
We've been hearing reports that Chewster has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Chewster rushes Rob and presses him up against the cage.
Rob looking to stall.
Rob creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Chewster blocks an uppercut.
Rob throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Rob misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Chewster.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chewster has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Rob is trying to keep an underhook but Chewster manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rob tries to get to full guard but Chewster has control of the leg.
Chewster seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Rob has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Chewster is working away from the top position though.
Chewster thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Chewster connects with a nice short shot to Rob's temple.
Rob gets back to full guard.
Rob looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chewster is one step ahead there.
Chewster controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Chewster got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rob has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chewster has managed to get both his arms back between Rob's legs - danger averted.

Chewster lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Chewster lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Chewster throws an elbow that misses. Rob uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Chewster's guard. Nice move by Rob!

Chewster controls Rob momentarily but Rob frees himself.
My spies in School of Hard Knocks inform me that Rob has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Chewster is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rob defends well.

Rob is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Chewster is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Chewster has escaped and now he's on top!

Rob is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Chewster wants to improve his position but Rob is controlling well.
Rob is looking to advance position but Chewster won't allow it.

Rob is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Chewster has managed to free his arm - good work.
Chewster trying to hold on to Rob's head to control him but Rob postures up.

Chewster has hold of Rob's hands but Rob slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Rob is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Chewster is looking to control Rob's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chewster avoid being mounted?
Rob prevents Chewster from improving his position.
Chewster trying to control from the bottom.

Rob is trying to work for a kimura but Chewster is defending well.
Chewster is refusing to be controlled, as Rob sits in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ace Rob will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Chewster is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Chewster moves out of range of the leg kick from Rob.

Chewster has closed the distance and engaged Rob in a clinch.
Chewster tries to pull guard but Rob holds him up against the cage and eventually Chewster drops back down to his feet.
Rob misses with a knee to the head.
Rob misses with the head strike.
Rob misses with some punches.
Rob prevents the takedown attempt.
Rob is trying to force a seperation but Chewster has the dominant position.
Chewster looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joseph Chewster. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chewster gets control of Rob's arms and successfully pulls guard. Chewster will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Rob stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chewster swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rob postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Chewster is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rob throws a jab when Chewster was well out of range.

Chewster gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Chewster lands a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rob manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Chewster manages to get himself to full guard.

Rob makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Rob works over Chewster with some ground and pound from guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rob forces his way into half guard.
Chewster is looking for a sweep. Rob is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rob is trying to control the action in half guard but Chewster is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Chewster is looking to improve his position.
Rob lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Rob looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Chewster actively working from the bottom here.

Chewster trying to control but Rob postures up.

Rob is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Chewster still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Chewster has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Chewster wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rob keeps working.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joseph Chewster will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Rob misses with a takedown attempt
and Chewster connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Chewster tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rob manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Chewster.
Rob tries to buck Chewster off but Chewster is having none of it.
Chewster lands a decent elbow from side control.
Rob can't do much from the bottom here.
Rob is looking for a sweep.

Rob is not content to let Chewster control the position.
Rob tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Chewster presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Rob is trying desperately to improve position.
Rob taking shots to the head.
Chewster tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Chewster prevents Rob from getting the reversal.
Chewster controlling the pace for now.

Rob working to try and regain half guard.
Rob is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Rob is in a horrible position here. Chewster smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Rob tries to reverse the position but Chewster maintains control.
Chewster is in the full mount, landing strikes.


Rob is rocked!
Rob takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Chewster's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joseph Chewster!
Our winner, Joseph Chewster, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
