The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGuire misses with a kick to the body.

and Thrul counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Thrul shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Thrul pivots, looking for a leg kick but McGuire is out of range and Thrul settles back down.

Thrul gets tackled into the cage by McGuire. McGuire maintains the clinch.
McGuire lands a hook that snaps the head of Thrul backwards.
Thrul digs a right hand into McGuire's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on McGuire's gas tank.

We've been hearing good reports from McGuire's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Thrul has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McGuire can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
McGuire bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

McGuire shoots in looking for a takedown. Thrul tries to sprawl out of it but McGuire keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thrul manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

McGuire ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Thrul moves away.

Thrul tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McGuire wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

You can see the frustration on Thrul's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Thrul wants to control but McGuire is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thrul is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McGuire's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McGuire's back!
Thrul lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
