Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luigi Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Patton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patton has chosen Motorhead - Iron Fist as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Patton!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patton ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bates moves away.
Bates throws a leg kick
and Patton counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Patton jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Patton misses with a series of wild punches.
Luigi Bates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Patton tries to keep at a distance but Bates has taken the fight into the clinch.
Patton lands with a left to the head.
Bates throws a head punch that misses.

Bates manages to break the clinch.
Patton takes a swing at Bates's ribcage but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sloppy strikes from Patton. Those never looked like landing.
Patton misses with a wild body shot.

Bates feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Patton is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Bates creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Bates is looking to take this one to the mat.
Patton lands a left hand that snaps the head of Bates backwards.
Patton scores a nice knee to the body.
Patton tries to throw a body punch but Bates avoids it by throwing Patton back against the cage.

Patton throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Bates blocks it with crossed arms.

Bates throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Patton ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Patton's coach down at 5 Star Spar Bazaar OFC was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Patton's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Bates paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bates throws a looping overhand right but Patton ducks down to avoid it.
We've been hearing reports that Bates has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Some wild striking there from Patton.

Bates tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Patton swivels and escapes.
Patton misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Patton drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
The fighters circling - Patton throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
No joy there for Patton, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Bates misses with a looping left.
Bates stalks Patton and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Patton's face. Patton staggers backwards, shaken.
Patton throws a jab but it's blocked by Bates.
Bates feinted with a counter takedown.
Bates throws a nice looking combination but Patton bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Patton ducks under a wild hook from Bates.
Jack Patton is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Patton's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Bates connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Patton scrambles back to his feet.
Patton lands a nice looking body shot.
A head kick misses from Patton.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Bates, as that shot connected.
Bates swings for the body but Patton moves out of range.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Patton counters with a nice low kick that buckles Bates's knee momentarily.

Patton throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bates lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Bates digs a good hook to Patton's body.
Patton fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Patton scores with a three punch combo!
A head kick misses from Patton.
Bates cracks Patton with a right hand to the side of the head.
Bates swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Patton cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Bates connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Patton throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bates feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Pattons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bates lands with an uppercut that bounces Patton off the cage and back into range.
Patton avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Bates takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Patton throws a leg kick but Bates checks it.

A close round but Jack Patton will probably get the nod.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Patton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bates wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bates goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Patton rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bates's guard! Nice work there by Patton!
Jack Patton has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bates has his foot on Patton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Patton works his way back into a safe position though.
Bates wants to improve his position but instead Patton has moved into half guard.

Patton looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bates with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Patton tries to work over Bates's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
A head punch on the inside from Patton fails to land.

Bates has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Patton clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

A very excited looking Luigi Bates made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
