PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jiu Jitsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Coke Montana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Coke Montana was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jiu Jitsu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Coke Montana!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montana misses with an uppercut.
Jitsu shoots in looking for a takedown but Montana manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jitsu's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Montana throws a head kick that misses

and Jitsu counters with a nice double leg into side control. Montana won't be happy with that.

Jitsu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Montana is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Jitsu has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Jitsu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Jitsu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jitsu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Montana tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Jitsu goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Montana has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Jitsu but great work by Montana.

Jitsu manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jitsu throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
I've been told that Montana has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game.
Jitsu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jitsu is pressing down on Montana's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Jitsu is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Montana defends well.
Montana stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jitsu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Montana must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jitsu looking to hit a scissor sweep but Montana is one step ahead there.

Jitsu has his foot on Montana's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Montana works his way back into a safe position though.

Jitsu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Montana can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jitsu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Montana can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Montana is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Jitsu looking for a sweep. Not yet Jitsu, not yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Montana's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Montana looking to sit in guard and control but Jitsu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jitsu fails to land the takedown.
Montana tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jitsu manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jitsu half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Montana misses the shot to the body.
Jitsu showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Montana.
Jitsu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Montana is fending him off so far but Jitsu persists. Nope, Montana circles away and we're back to standing.

Montana is looking to slow Jitsu down with leg kicks.
Jitsu on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Montana feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jitsus jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Montana does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Jitsu fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jiu Jitsu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Montana throws a head kick but Jitsu moves out of range.

so Jitsu counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Jitsu is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Montana is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Montana has escaped and now he's on top!

Jitsu is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Montana is aware though and is defending well.

Jitsu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Montana is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Jitsu has an active guard here but Montana has managed to pass into half guard.

Montana is keen to just control but Jitsu is a slippery customer.

Jiu Jitsu overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jitsu wants to sweep but no luck.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Jitsu is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Montana looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Jitsu had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Montana defends it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jitsu escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Montana gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Coke Montana showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


A big right from Montana misses.
Jitsu tries to counter with a takedown but Montana is quick to defend against it.
Jitsu shoots in for a double leg but Montana sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A jab lands there for Montana.
Jitsu closes this distance looking for a takedown but Montana circles away.
Montana lands with a straight right. Jitsu didn't see that one coming.

Montana leaves Jitsu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Montana tries a quick counter leg kick but Jitsu is wise to it.
Jitsu dives in and grabs Montana's left leg, looking for a takedown. Montana pushes down on Jitsu's head and hops out.
Montana looks like he wants to counter punch here.

so Jitsu counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jitsu works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Montana is defending against the submission attempts here by Jitsu.
Montana is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jitsu's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jitsu's back!
Jitsu tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Jitsu is squirming around, avoiding Montana's attempts to control the action.
Montana tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Coke Montana comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Montana has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
