Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Steve Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roger Dawson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez comes to the cage accompanied by Where is My Mind? by Pixies. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Roger Dawson!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Bruno Hogan and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dawson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Sanchez throws a series of punches but Dawson moves out of range.

Sanchez tries to keep at a distance but Dawson has taken the fight into the clinch.
Dawson lands with a short shot to the head.

A nice right hand lands inside from Dawson.
Sanchez lands a nice elbow.
Sanchez is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Dawson lands a shoulder strike.
Sanchez looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Dawson dodges an elbow strike from Sanchez.
Sanchez effectively controlling the action here.
Sanchez is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Dawson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sanchez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Sanchez changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Nice sprawl there from Dawson as Sanchez shoots in.
Dawson's coach down at Tōshi was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Dawson's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Dawson throws a jab but it's blocked by Sanchez.

Sanchez clinches up against the cage.
Dawson will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Sanchez up against the cage.
Sanchez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Dawson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Come on Sanchez - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Dawson.
Sanchez wants to stall.

Dawson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sanchez looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Dawson throws a hook but Sanchez blocks it.
Dawson throws out a loose jab but Sanchez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sanchez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Dawson throws out the jab.

Sanchez takes one on the button.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sanchez takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Sanchez connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Nice uppercut lands for Dawson. That snapped Sanchez's head back.
Sanchez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Dawson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Dawson thows a left - swing and a miss!
Dawson ducks under a wild hook from Sanchez.
Decent striking displayed by Sanchez there.
Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch but Dawson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sanchez tries to clinch up.
Sanchez takes one to the chin there.
Sanchez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dawson.
Sanchez throws a solid leg kick but Dawson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Sanchez.
Dawson connects with a jab.
Dawson throws a shot from downtown. Sanchez moves away and avoids it.
Sanchez walks into a left hand.


Sanchez is rocked!
Sanchez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dawson.
Oh Sanchez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Dawson lands with a right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez lands with a hook. Dawson tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Dawson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Sanchez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Dawson throws out the jab.
Sanchez misses with a straight left.
Jab, jab by Sanchez - just one landing.
Sanchez seems to have got his legs back now.
Sanchez cracks Dawson with an open hand slap.
A big left from Sanchez misses.
Sanchez finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Dawson's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Sanchez falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Roger Dawson!
A relieved looking Roger Dawson thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
