Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Big Tow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thiago Meida!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meida connects with a nice looking jab.


It looks like Big Tow has been cut.
Tow fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Tow shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Meida as he jumps to the side.
Meida is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Tow with a body shot.

Tow gets a takedown into half guard.

Tow is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Tow winds up and cracks Meida with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Tow stops Meida from getting back to his feet.

Tow is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Meida doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Meida is refusing to be controlled, as Tow sits in half guard.
Tow has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Meida wants to get back to his feet.

Tow is working for a kimura but Meida is defending it quite comfortably.
Meida blocking the ground and pound attempt from Tow.
Meida avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Tow.
Tow is looking to take a break and control but Meida is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tow is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Meida doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tow.

Meida is not content to let Tow control the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Meida manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Tow keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Tow manages to pull guard.
Meida wants to stand but Tow has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Tow looking for a sweep. Not yet Tow, not yet.
Tow is trying to keep Meida in close.
Meida must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tow is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Tow missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Meida is trying to stand back up but Tow is controlling him

Tow is trying to work for a kimura but Meida is defending well.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Tow connects with a nice short shot to Meida's temple.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tow missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Tow not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Tow stops Meida from getting back to his feet.

Meida has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Tow is on him like a limpet, forcing Meida back against the cage.
Meida lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Tow jumps guard but Meida turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Tow. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tow tries to pull guard but Meida won't allow it.
Tow tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Meida misses with a hook to the ribs.
Tow is trying to pull guard but Meida has him pressed against the cage.
Tow fails to pull guard.
Meida lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Tow is breathing heavily.
Tow tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Meida scores with a shoulder strike.
Meida lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Meida misses with a body punch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Meida.
Meida lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Meida throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Tows head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Meida gets through Tow's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Meida lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Meida lands an uppercut.
Meida lands a right hand that snaps the head of Tow backwards.
Meida softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Meida goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A short body shot lands from Meida as the two fighters clinch.

Meida breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tow shoots in but no luck this time.
Meida throws out a counter right but Tow avoids it with no problem.
Meida lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Tow shoots and misses
and Meida counters with a beautiful right hand that knocks Tow out cold! What a finish! Meida is going crazy, running around the mat, summersaulting off the corner posts and screaming into the cameras. Something tells me he's pretty happy!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Thiago Meida!
Thiago Meida decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
