PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michio Kaku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luther Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaku kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is We will rock you. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Michio Kaku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Luther Ross!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Chad Campbell and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Kaku looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kaku tries to close the distance and clinch but Ross swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kaku fails with the takedown
and Kaku takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ross lands a really nice looking cross but Kaku seems unphased.
Ross scores with a hook.

Kaku closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kaku lands in his opponent's guard.
Kaku postures up and lands a big shot to Ross's brow.
Kaku throwing strikes but missing.
Kaku is looking to work some ground and pound but Ross has wrist control.
Kaku pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ross is keeping the position for now.

Ross is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kaku is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ross looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kaku wants to work for an arm triangle but Ross is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ross tries to kick Kaku off but Kaku keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Ross has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ross is controlling Kaku's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Kaku is keen to just control but Ross is a slippery customer.

Ross holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Kaku is trying to control the action in half guard but Ross is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kaku is really struggling to control Ross but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Kaku is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ross is just riding it out for now. Kaku eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kaku is trying to control the action in half guard but Ross is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Kaku seems to be looking for submissions.
Ross wants to control but Kaku is keeping busy.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kaku wants to take a breather but Ross is having none of it.
Kaku has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kaku thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Ross tries to roll over but Kaku keeps him under control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ross can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kaku looking to control but Ross is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Ross tries to hold on but Kaku pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kaku's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Ross connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kaku's hands.
Ross ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Ross scores with a jab.
Kaku takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Kaku is looking to clinch but Ross is avoiding it.
Ross lands with a right hand.
Kaku tries to close the distance and clinch but Ross swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ross throws a good cross that connects.
Ross avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kaku walks into a straight right hand from Ross.
A slapping leg kick lands for Ross.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Ross.
Kaku looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kaku takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Ross cracks Kaku with an open hand slap.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Ross, as that shot connected.
Sloppy strikes from Ross. Those never looked like landing.

Ross drops Kaku with a left and a right! Oh, Kaku is hurt - Ross dives into side control looking to finish!


Kaku is rocked!
Ross fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Oh Kaku is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kaku sneaks back into half guard.
Kaku seems to have got his legs back now.

Kaku is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ross pulls his head out easily.
Kaku is trying to maintain the position but Ross is very close to passing his half guard.
Kaku gets full guard.

Ross really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kaku. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ross throws a strike but Kaku rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ross can't keep his opponent in guard - Kaku advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Ross keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kaku is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Ross is refusing to be controlled, as Kaku sits in half guard.
Ross is trying to stand back up but Kaku is controlling him
Kaku is keen to just control but Ross is a slippery customer.
Kaku throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Ross to regain full guard.

Kaku thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kaku loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kaku postures up and lands a big shot to Ross's brow.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kaku wants to control from the top but Ross keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ross stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ross wants it to stay on the feet.
Kaku tries to clinch there but Ross circles away.

Kaku bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Ross has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kaku trying to control the action but Ross is working from the bottom.
Ross tries to bench press Kaku off him but Kaku keeps the position.
Kaku advances nicely into full mount.
Kaku avoids the attempt from Ross to control.

Kaku has hold of Ross's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ross manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Kaku lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Ross working to try and regain half guard.
Kaku looking to control but Ross is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luther Ross showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Kaku throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ross's waist but Ross gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kaku off to one side.
Ross looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Ross lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kaku circles away quickly and effectively.
Kaku on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Ross. Ross obviously looking to wear him down.
Ross lands with a right hand.
Ross scores with a jab to the jaw.
A cross from Ross lands.
Kaku's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Ross connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Kaku scrambles back to his feet.
Jab, jab by Ross - just one landing.
Kaku tries for a takedown but Ross sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kaku takes one on the button.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ross scores with a jab. Kaku acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kaku goes for a double leg but Ross avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ross continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michio Kaku. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ross lands with a straight right. Kaku didn't see that one coming.
Ross shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Kaku eats them both and turns towards Ross to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Kaku looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ross leaves Kaku with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nice body punch from Ross.
Kaku gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Ross gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Luther Ross!
