PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bushido Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Griffin McElroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffin McElroy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bushido Bob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Griffin McElroy!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bob attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

No joy there for McElroy, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and McElroy counters with a two punch combo.

and McElroy counters with a good low kick that Bob was not able to check.

McElroy moves into range and clinches up with Bob.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. McElroy obliges.
McElroy is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Bob is keeping busy.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

We've been hearing reports that Bob has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Bob decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bob connects with a nice short shot to McElroy's temple.
McElroy wants to improve his position but Bob is controlling well.
McElroy is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bob scores with a couple of nice shots.
McElroy felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Bob thows a huge punch but McElroy dodges it nicely.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bob wants to work for an arm triangle but McElroy is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bob connects with a nice short shot to McElroy's temple.

Bob is nestled in close to McElroy, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Bob working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bob dives in and grabs McElroy's left leg, looking for a takedown. McElroy pushes down on Bob's head and hops out.

Bob tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McElroy was well out of range. Poor timing from Bob.

McElroy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bob.

Bob shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bob showed some decent athleticism there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McElroy lands an overhand right.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McElroy doesn't manage to clinch there - Bob circles away.
Bob drops down looking for a counter takedown but McElroy sprawls and moves away.

Bob wants the takedown. McElroy is fighting it off but Bob persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in McElroy's guard against the cage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McElroy pushes Bob off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Bob closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bob lands in his opponent's guard.

McElroy slips a straight right by Bob.
McElroy uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bob.
Griffin McElroy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bob missing with a left hand there. McElroy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Bob.

Bob feints and as McElroy raises his hands in defense, Bob changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bob tries to free his leg and advance position but McElroy is retaining full guard.
McElroy is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Bob dives into side control.
Bob looks up at the clock and then as McElroy takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Bob smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Bob is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McElroy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McElroy wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

McElroy is working to avoid the ground and pound but Bob connects with a decent elbow.

Bob tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bob has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Bob thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

McElroy can't do much from the bottom here.

Bushido Bob overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

McElroy wants to get back to his feet but Bob drags him back down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

McElroy will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Bob up against the cage.

Bob wants to lay and pray for a moment but McElroy keeps working.

Griffin McElroy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bob has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
