Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Modus Ponens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cook has chosen I kill cause I'm hungry- rob bailey as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Modus Ponens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Cook!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Cook, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ponens swinging wildly here.

Ponens shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ponens showed some decent athleticism there.
Ponens lands with a punch from half guard.
Ponens wants to take a breather but Cook is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ponens thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cook's head.

Ponens looks to land a strike but Cook avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Cook pulls Ponens in close to his closed guard and prevents Ponens from doing any damage or advancing position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cook is on top in guard.

Ponens has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ponens is looking to work some ground and pound but Cook has wrist control.

Ponens closes the distance and clinches.
Cook misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ponens.
Cook has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ponens avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Cook turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Cook manages to end up in side control.
Cook tries to advance to mount but Ponens denies him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Ponens lets loose with a powerful body kick. Cook will feel that in the morning.
Cook slaps away a takedown attempt from Ponens, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Modus Ponens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cook swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Ponens counters with a single leg into guard. Cook didn't expect that.

Ponens with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Cook is looking for a triangle but Ponens pushes his legs off easily.

Cook is pressed up against the cage. Ponens has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cook down to the mat. Cook avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Cook stalks Ponens and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ponens's face. Ponens staggers backwards, shaken.
Nice uppercut lands for Ponens. That snapped Cook's head back.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Cook crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Ponens - the referee stops the clock and Cook gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Ponens. Cook manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Cook takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ponens closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
I was talking to Ponens's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Ponens lands an elbow inside.

Cook pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cook is trying to break the clinch but Ponens has him pressed against the cage.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cook has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ponens after a bit of a struggle.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Modus Ponens.
I think Ponens has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Modus Ponens decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
