With a record of 21 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steel Penn!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn misses with a right hand
and Byrne counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Byrne misses with a few strikes there.
Byrne just misses with a punch to the body.
Penn counters with a body kick.
Byrne looks to score with a jab to the body but Penn is just out of range.
Byrne has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Penn finds it's way round the side to connect with Byrne's head.

Byrne ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Penn ducks right into an uppercut from Byrne.

enabling Penn to counter with a crisp jab.

Despite the aggression on Penn's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Byrne lands a glancing blow to the side of Penn's head.
Byrne throws a quick inside leg kick.

Byrne has closed the distance and engaged Penn in a clinch.
I was talking to Byrne's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Byrne tries to land a knee to the head but Penn blocks with his arms.

Penn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Byrne throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Penn swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Byrne throws a jab when Penn was well out of range.
It seemed like Penn was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Penn pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Byrne back to the ropes. Penn follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Byrne tries to land a front kick but Penn steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Penn was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Byrne lands with a thumping leg kick.
Byrne lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Penn is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

and Penn counters with an outside leg kick.
Penn chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Byrne can pounce on him.

and Penn counters with a big 3 punch combo that drops Byrne on his ass! Byrne wobbles back to his feet half way through the count and though looking a bit dazed, the referee is going to allow the fight to continue!

and Penn counters with a lead uppercut that lands right on the button! Byrne goes down! Will Byrne beat the count? 3,4,5 - he's up! No problem. Let's get back to the action!

Byrne is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Penn can do to turn this around?
Byrne looks to score with a jab to the body but Penn is just out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Steel Penn scored multiple knockdowns in that round, so has to take it.

and Penn counters with a deadly accurate combination that rocks Byrne badly! He tries to strike back but Penn puts an end to that with another precision combo that knocks Byrne out cold! Oh man, Byrne will never hear the end of this one!
