PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Piotr Rokicki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duane Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rokicki comes to the cage accompanied by Survivor - Eye of the Tiger. Duane Perry is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Piotr Rokicki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Duane Perry!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Rokicki throwing a counter right hand but Perry manages to avoid it.
Perry dives in for a single leg takedown but Rokicki sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Perry has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Perry shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
A low kick from Perry misses

and Rokicki counters with a shoot takedown. Perry fights it but they end up in guard.
Rokicki landing with the ground and pound.
Rokicki throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Perry works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rokicki throws a strike but Perry rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Perry controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Perry prevents Rokicki from getting back to his feet.
Rokicki is trying to hold Perry in close to prevent damage but Perry has managed to pass into half guard.
Perry is looking to stall here but Rokicki recovers full guard.
Perry is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Rokicki has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Rokicki wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Perry throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Perry gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Rokicki counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Rokicki misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rokicki keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rokicki blocks the body kick.
Perry throws a lazy body kick
and Rokicki counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Perry thinking.
Perry connects with a solid leg kick.
Perry pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Perry looks for the body kick but Rokicki saw that one coming.
Perry tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Perry connects with an inside leg kick.
Perry lands a high kick!

Perry tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rokicki manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nice defenses there by Rokicki.
Rokicki walks forward, straight into a front kick from Perry.
Perry fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rokicki was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rokicki takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Rokicki bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Rokicki gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Perry tries to throw a body punch but Rokicki avoids it by throwing Perry back against the cage.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round but I would say that Piotr Rokicki will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Rokicki takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Rokicki moves out of range of the leg kick from Perry.

Perry throws a hook to the side of Rokicki's head but Rokicki sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
An attempted straight right counter from Rokicki misses the target.
Rokicki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Rokicki swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Duane Perry seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rokicki connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Perry's hands.

Rokicki looks to land a combination but Perry avoids it well.
Perry throws a chopping leg kick but Rokicki manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

and Rokicki counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Perry thinking.
Perry throws out a loose jab but Rokicki uses good head movement to avoid it.
A little feinted left hand from Rokicki on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
The fighters circle momentarily. Perry darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A clash of legs there as Rokicki blocks the low kick.

and Rokicki connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

A solid body kick from Rokicki.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Perry pivots, looking for a leg kick but Rokicki is out of range and Perry settles back down.
Perry misses with a hook
and Rokicki counters with a nice leg kick.
Perry bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
A bone on bone clash there as Rokicki blocks the leg kick.

and Perry counters with a stiff right hand.
Perry swings for the body but Rokicki moves out of range.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Perry. Rokicki shrugs it off though.

Rokicki shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Perry but Perry pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rokicki sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Perry throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Rokicki looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Perry shoots in for a takedown but Rokicki shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
It looked like Rokicki wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Perry throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rokicki sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Perry feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Rokicki's calf.

Duane Perry showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Perry closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Rokicki tries to get back to half guard but can't.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perry misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Rokicki tries to bench press Perry off him but Perry keeps the position.

Rokicki is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Perry is controlling him well.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Perry throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Duane Perry comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Perry has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
