PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Otto Geisler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Strong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Strong has chosen Egypt Central - Kick Ass as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Otto Geisler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Strong!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Geisler uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Strong.
Strong stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Geisler showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Strong.
Geisler throws a body kick that misses.
Strong is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Strong missing with a left hand there. Geisler was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Strong tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Geisler was well out of range. Poor timing from Strong.
Geisler takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Strong throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Geisler has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

It looks like Mark Strong has been cut.
Geisler on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Strong cracks Geisler with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Geisler throws a good cross that connects.
Geisler swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Strong avoids the body shot from Geisler.

Strong closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Strong lands in his opponent's guard.
Strong is standing up over Geisler. Geisler looks to escape but Strong dives into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Strong is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Geisler has escaped the position, nice work there.
Geisler wants to get back to his feet but Strong drags him back down.
Strong controls the position.
Geisler dodges the ground and pound from Strong.

Strong connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Geisler some visible discomfort.
Strong lands some shots froms side control.
Strong misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Strong wants to control but Geisler is keeping him busy.
Strong slows the pace down.

Sloppy strikes there by Strong.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Geisler's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Strong tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Strong has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Strong throws an elbow but Geisler slips to the side and avoids it well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Strong working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Check out the look on Strong's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Strong is looking to take a break and control but Geisler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Geisler swings for the body but Strong moves out of range.
Strong throws a right and a left that Geisler avoids nicely.
Geisler tries to clinch up but Strong circles away and keeps his distance.
Strong works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Strong connects with a crisp jab.
Strong keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Geisler.
A low kick from Geisler is predictable there
and Strong counters with a right hand to the body.

Strong shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Geisler manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Geisler throws an overhand right that lands on Strong's shoulder, as Strong tries to avoid the shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Strong on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Geisler throws a hook but Strong blocks it.
Geisler throws a nice inside leg kick.
Strong has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Geisler feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Strong's calf.

Mark Strong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Strong throws a hook but Geisler avoids it easily.

Strong closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Geisler is looking to control Strong's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Geisler avoid being mounted?

Strong has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Geisler pushes Strong off looking to stand but Strong dives back in and keeps control.
Strong is taking a breather. Geisler says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Strong seems to be working for a kimura but Geisler defends the submission attempt.
Geisler on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Otto Geisler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Strong wants to free his trapped foot but Geisler is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Strong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Geisler keeps working.
Strong frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Strong tries to control but Geisler wriggling away.
Strong is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Geisler tries to reverse the position but Strong maintains control.

Strong thowing shots but they're missing.
Strong misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Geisler is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Strong trying to control but Geisler is having none of it.
Strong might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Geisler haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Strong controlling from the full mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Strong cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Mark Strong is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Geisler is squirming around, avoiding Strong's attempts to control the action.
Strong takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Strong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Strong has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
