PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ukko Metso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rich Piana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rich Piana struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Metso counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Piana is trying to maintain the position but Metso is very close to passing his half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, if Metso is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Metso lands a couple of good shots and Piana has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Piana wants to control his opponent's hands but Metso gets his hands free.

Metso has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Metso is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Piana knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Piana really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Metso. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Metso seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Piana does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Metso jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Piana manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Metso is landing with some decent strikes but Piana is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Metso lands a couple of good shots and Piana has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
The referee is taking a good look at Piana as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Metso!

Piana is in a bad position with Metso working for a choke. Piana manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Metso is on top in guard.
