Day comes to the cage accompanied by Last minute - Great day to choke you out. Griffin comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Get Low kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Gary Day could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Peter Griffin's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gary Day!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Day changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Griffin tries to avoid it but Day manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Griffin to the ground. Griffin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Day slips under a jab from Griffin.
Griffin moves out of range of the body kick from Day.
Day throws out a leg kick but Griffin moves out of range and Day only half commits.
Day avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Griffin misses with an uppercut
and Day counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Griffin throws a jab but it's blocked by Day.
Day looks to score with a jab to the body but Griffin is just out of range.
Griffin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Day moves away.
Day thinks about countering with a body kick.
Gary Day seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Day misses with a hook
and Griffin counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Day shoots for a takedown but Griffin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Griffin looks like he wants to counter punch here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Day takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Griffin throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Day on the side of the head.
Day lands a nice leg kick that just misses Griffin's sensitive parts.
Day looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Day misses with a leg kick
and Griffin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Griffin gets tackled into the cage by Day. Day maintains the clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Day fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Griffin looking to stall.
Day tries a body shot but Griffin blocks it.
Day doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Day tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Day is trying to pull guard but Griffin turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gary Day. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Griffin tries to stall but Day uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Day breaks from the clinch.
Day swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Griffin misses with a straight left.
Day looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Day scores with a nice right hand.
Day uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Griffin.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Griffin lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Day lands a really nice looking cross but Griffin seems unphased.
Griffin misses with a hook
letting Day counter with a right hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Griffin throws a hook but Day avoids it easily.
Day throws a chopping leg kick but Griffin manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Griffin! But no joy.
Day throws a head kick that misses
and Griffin counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Gary Day has been cut.
Griffin throws a big shot that misses.
Griffin scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Day ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Griffin moves away.
Day throws a leg kick that is checked
and Griffin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


Day is rocked!
Griffin lands a lovely overhand right.
Oh Day is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Day throws a predictable looking body shot
and Griffin counters with a crisp right that sends Day to the canvas! Griffin follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Peter Griffin! Peter Griffin retains his lightweight title!
Peter Griffin decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
