PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Terry Bogard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Potter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bogard comes into the arena with Body Head Bangerz - Can’t Be Touched blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Terry Bogard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Potter!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bogard jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Potter shoots in looking for a takedown but Bogard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Potter's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Potter closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Potter is looking to advance position but Bogard won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bogard pushes Potter off looking to stand but Potter dives back in and keeps control.
Bogard is refusing to be controlled, as Potter sits in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Potter tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bogard knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Potter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Potter is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Potter is pressing down on Bogard's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bogard is holding on for now.
Potter thows a huge punch but Bogard dodges it nicely.
Potter perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Potter is looking to stall here but Bogard recovers full guard.
Potter's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Potter wants to control from the top but Bogard keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bogard throws a left and a right that both miss

and Potter counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bogard won't be happy with that.
Potter tries to score with some ground and pound. Bogard controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Potter trying to control the action but Bogard is working from the bottom.
Potter tries to advance to mount but Bogard denies him.

Potter is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bogard is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Potter wants to control but Bogard is keeping him busy.
Potter is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Bogard's shoulder. That is not cool.

Bogard is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Bogard is not content to let Potter control the position.
Potter controls the position.
Potter trying to control the position but Bogard is working away.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Potter bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Potter shoots in looking for a takedown but Bogard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Potter's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Potter moves away from the strike by Bogard.
Bogard waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Potter.
Potter has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Bogard is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Potter defending well as Bogard loads up on a big left hand.
Potter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Terry Bogard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Potter.

Bogard ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Nice straight punches there by Potter. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Potter.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Potter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bogard tries to avoid it but Potter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bogard to the ground. Bogard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bogard misses with a two punch combination.
Potter closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Potter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A quick step to the side and Bogard tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Terry Bogard will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A telegraphed right hand from Bogard misses the target.
Bogard is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Bogard throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

The fighters circling - Bogard throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Bogard is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Potter ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Potter is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Potter looks for a takedown but Bogard sprawls well.

Potter is trying to move to mount but Bogard reverses beautifully and ends up in Potter's guard.
Potter is trying to control the position but Bogard postures up.
Potter has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Potter is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Alexander Potter has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bogard won't allow Potter to sweep him here.

Potter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Potter uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bogard.
Potter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Bogard tries to bum rush Potter with a series of wild strikes but Potter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bogard lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Potter circles away quickly and effectively.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bogard keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Potter shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Potter in particular looking to stall.
Potter wants to pass the guard but Bogard is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terry Bogard dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Bogard lands a head shot.
A decent looking cross lands there for Bogard.
Potter ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Potter cracks the inside of Bogard's front leg.
Bogard takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Bogard misses with a straight left.
Potter changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Bogard works Potter's body with a nice hook.
Potter keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Bogard.
Potter lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
The fighters circle momentarily. Potter darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Potter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bogard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Potter is looking to pass into half guard but Bogard pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Bogard is in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bogard wants to get up but he can't break Potter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Bogard has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Potter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


The fighters are working up against the cage. Bogard manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Bogard misses with the head strike.

Potter gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Bogard lands a hook that snaps the head of Potter backwards.
Potter blocks an uppercut.
Potter is trying to drag Bogard to the mat but Bogard just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bogard looks to land a combination but Potter avoids it well.
Bogard throws out a loose jab but Potter uses good head movement to avoid it.
Potter misses the shot to the body.
Potter moves out of range as Bogard strikes.
Potter feints the counter takedown.
Potter looks to score with a jab to the body but Bogard is just out of range.
Potter misses with a wild body shot.
Bogard throws a lazy right hand but Potter sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Potter throws a shot from downtown. Bogard moves away and avoids it.
Bogard throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Potter tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Potter tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bogard manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Bogard was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Potter lands a nice hook to Bogard's body. Bogard takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Bogard rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Potter counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Potter is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Let's hope that Potter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Potter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bogard is just riding it out for now. Potter eventually gives up the hold.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Terry Bogard.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bogard, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
