PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mr Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chico Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Chico Sanchez was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mr Ward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chico Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez moves in looking to clinch but Ward pushes him off.
As Sanchez looks to move away, Ward throws a big counter combo but Sanchez just gets out of the way.
Chico Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ward gets caught napping as Sanchez dives in and scores a takedown. Ward manages to retain guard.
Ward not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ward working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Sanchez.
Ward is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Sanchez is pushing down on Ward's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ward is fighting to maintain full guard but Sanchez has managed to sneak the leg through.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sanchez is taking a breather. Ward says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

and Sanchez counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Sanchez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ward not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ward has control of Sanchez's left arm, preventing Sanchez from doing any damage.
Sanchez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Sanchez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ward is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sanchez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Ward throws a right and a left that both miss.
It seemed like Sanchez was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sanchez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
As Sanchez tries to get set, Ward tries to push him back and clinch up but Sanchez manages to avoid the attempt.

Sanchez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chico Sanchez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ward moves out of range of the body kick from Sanchez.

Sanchez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sanchez has closed the distance and engaged Ward in a clinch.
Sanchez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ward fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Sanchez blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Sanchez prevents a body shot from Ward.

Sanchez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ward tries a body shot but Sanchez blocks it.

Sanchez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ward paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Sanchez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Ward!
Ward manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Ward is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ward blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sanchez.

Ward is looking to control Sanchez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ward avoid being mounted?

Sanchez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ward defends it well.

Chico Sanchez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Ward tries to close the distance and clinch but Sanchez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mr Ward is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

As Sanchez looks to move away, Ward throws a big counter combo but Sanchez just gets out of the way.
Sanchez goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Sanchez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Ward tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sanchez is in Ward's guard.

Sanchez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ward swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sanchez is fighting to break Ward's control of his arms but Ward is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

It looks like Mr Ward has been cut.
Ward avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ward enables Sanchez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ward manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Well Sanchez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
