Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jaakko Savolainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Avery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avery uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Savolainen.

and Avery cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Avery lands a really nice looking cross but Savolainen seems unphased.
Savolainen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Avery scores with a punch to the head.
Avery moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Savolainen scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Avery doesn't seem bothered though.

Savolainen sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Avery lands a nice hook to Savolainen's body. Savolainen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
The fighters circling - Avery throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Avery wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Savolainen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Savolainen has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Avery uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Savolainen.
A countering left hand to the body from Avery misses.

Savolainen feints and as Avery raises his hands in defense, Savolainen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Savolainen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Avery is just riding it out for now. Savolainen eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Avery is trying to control but can't.
Savolainen wants to pass to mount but Avery is defending the position.
Savolainen is keen to just control but Avery is a slippery customer.
Savolainen looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Savolainen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Avery knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Avery has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Savolainen is working away from the top position though.

Avery shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Savolainen as he avoids it easily.
Savolainen lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Avery enables Savolainen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Avery manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Avery is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

I think Avery has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
