PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeremy Cohen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brust McDallas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeremy Cohen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brust McDallas!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Dmitry Maklakov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That kick from McDallas tenderised Cohen's leg. Cohen is trying to keep his angry face on.
McDallas stuffs the takedown.

McDallas darts in and clinches Cohen up against the cage.
McDallas stops a takedown attempt from Cohen.
Cohen tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeremy Cohen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McDallas breaks from the clinch.

McDallas instigates a clinch.

McDallas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

McDallas moves into the clinch.

McDallas is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Cohen can't fight it off and eventually McDallas manages to take the fight to the floor. Cohen looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
McDallas trying to control but Cohen is working from the bottom.

McDallas decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Cohen, up you get!

McDallas moves into the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Cohen manages to pull guard.

McDallas has gone for a leg lock! Cohen slips out almost immediately though and dives into McDallas's guard.

McDallas can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cohen controls the pace.

Cohen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
McDallas wants to stand up but Cohen is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McDallas not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cohen scoring with some ground and pound.
McDallas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cohen is controlling him.
Cohen postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

McDallas wants to stand but Cohen is controlling the position.
McDallas is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Cohen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
McDallas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McDallas wants it to stay on the feet.

Cohen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

McDallas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McDallas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
McDallas looks winded!
McDallas misses with a double jab

and Cohen counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Cohen engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
McDallas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cohen is controlling him.
Cohen wants to control from the top but McDallas keeps moving.
Cohen is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cohen trying to control the position from guard on top but McDallas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

McDallas pushes Cohen off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
McDallas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cohen is fending him off so far but McDallas persists. Nope, Cohen circles away and we're back to standing.
A slapping leg kick lands for Cohen.

McDallas shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

McDallas is trying to work for a kimura but Cohen is defending well.
McDallas is keen to just control but Cohen is a slippery customer.
Cohen controlling the position for now.
Cohen is trying to stand up here but McDallas is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brust McDallas dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Cohen tries to keep at a distance but McDallas has taken the fight into the clinch.

McDallas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McDallas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McDallas fails with a takedown attempt.
Cohen drops down looking for a counter takedown but McDallas sprawls and moves away.
Brust McDallas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McDallas fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
McDallas lands a jab to the nose.

McDallas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cohen's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cohen is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Cohen wants to stand up but McDallas is controlling him.
McDallas is breathing heavily.

Cohen is adopting a defensive guard.
Cohen keeping moving, preventing McDallas from controlling successfully.
McDallas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cohen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cohen wants to stand but McDallas is controlling the position.

Cohen tightens his grip and picks McDallas up, before dumping him to the ground. McDallas manages to land in guard.
Cohen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
McDallas working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cohen.
Jeremy Cohen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cohen postures up.
McDallas might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cohen haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Cohen passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Cohen lands a decent elbow from side control.
McDallas wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Cohen looks up at the clock and then as McDallas takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Cohen smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cohen works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
McDallas is trying to get back to his feet.

Cohen is trying to get an arm triangle but McDallas is defending well.

Cohen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cohen moves into full mount!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cohen lands a couple of good shots and McDallas has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Cohen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Cohen tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but McDallas defends well and Cohen ends up having to push McDallas into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

McDallas gets in close and instigates a clinch.
McDallas misses with an elbow strike.

Cohen pulls guard effortlessly.
McDallas advances to half guard.
McDallas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cohen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McDallas lands strikes from half guard.


It looks like Jeremy Cohen has been cut.

McDallas wants to work for an arm triangle but Cohen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McDallas wants to control but Cohen is keeping him busy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cohen throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
McDallas is trying to control the action in half guard but Cohen is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Cohen kicks McDallas off and gets back to his feet.

Cohen gets tackled into the cage by McDallas. McDallas maintains the clinch.

Cohen turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Cohen manages to end up in side control.
McDallas is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cohen has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Cohen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cohen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
McDallas is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cohen is controlling him well.

Cohen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cohen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

McDallas is trying to control Cohen's posture but Cohen avoids it.

Cohen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McDallas is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Cohen tries for a kimura but McDallas is defending well.
McDallas is not content to let Cohen control the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McDallas is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cohen has just dragged him back down to the mat.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

McDallas rushes Cohen and presses him up against the cage.
McDallas jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cohen walks away with a smile on his face. McDallas gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
McDallas throws a series of punches but Cohen moves out of range.

Cohen closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. McDallas quickly recovers to half guard.
McDallas is trying to stand back up but Cohen is controlling him
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cohen is working for a submission of some sort.
McDallas is trying to stand back up but Cohen is controlling him

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jeremy Cohen.
I think Cohen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
