Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Speedy Atkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruslan Mstislav Volkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Atkins comes into the arena with big in japan blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 27 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Speedy Atkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ruslan Mstislav Volkov!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Atkins has managed to clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Volkov as Atkins tries to tie him up.
Volkov blocking some punches.

Volkov breaks the clinch.
Atkins tries to close the distance and clinch up but Volkov swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Volkov drops Atkins with a beautiful combination! Atkins stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Volkov is looking for the KO!
Atkins swinging wildly here.
Atkins tries a head kick but it misses.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Volkov throws a sloppy head kick and Atkins moves out of range easily.
Atkins bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Nice body punch from Volkov.
Atkins tries to clinch up.
Atkins thuds a left hand into Volkov's body.
Atkins looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Volkov misses with a head kick.

Atkins clinches.
Volkov tries to pull guard but Atkins holds him up against the cage and eventually Volkov drops back down to his feet.
Volkov wants a takedown but no success here.

Volkov blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Volkov jumps guard and drags Atkins to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Atkins wants to control from the top but Volkov keeps moving.

Atkins drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Volkov manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Atkins has Volkov in his guard.

Volkov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Atkins escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Volkov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Volkov would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Atkins working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Volkov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Volkov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Atkins is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Atkins doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Volkov slips nicely into half guard.

Atkins is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Volkov pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Volkov wants to stand but Atkins has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Atkins looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Volkov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Atkins is just riding it out for now. Volkov eventually gives up the hold.
Atkins is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Volkov's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Volkov's back!

Atkins is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Volkov defends it well.
Atkins wants to lay and pray for a moment but Volkov keeps working.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Volkov misses with a leg kick.
Atkins misses with a series of wild punches.
Volkov throws a big counter head kick but Atkins avoids it with no problem.
Atkins throws a head kick that misses.
Atkins takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Atkins keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Volkov.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Volkov jumps guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Atkins looking to sit in guard and control but Volkov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Volkov is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Atkins sees it coming and defends easily.

Ruslan Mstislav Volkov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

and Volkov counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Volkov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Volkov has taken the fight to the clinch.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Atkins lands a nice uppercut.
Atkins tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Atkins throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Volkovs head.

Volkov drags the fight down to the ground.

Atkins drops back, looking for a kneebar! Volkov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Volkov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Volkov!

Atkins gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Atkins is looking for a sweep. Volkov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Atkins is staying active underneath Volkov, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Atkins trying to control from the bottom.
Volkov is taking a breather. Atkins says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Atkins actively working from the bottom here.
Volkov stalling.
Atkins is trying to control but can't.
Volkov uses his free foot to push down on Atkins's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Atkins.

Volkov has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Atkins's face.
Volkov lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Atkins looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Atkins turns into Volkov and is now in his guard.

Atkins postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Volkov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Atkins, into his guard.

Volkov lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Atkins working for submissions but it's allowed Volkov to get to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Volkov tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Atkins tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Volkov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Volkov cracks Atkins with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Atkins tries to improve his position but instead Volkov has taken his back!

You can see the frustration on Atkins's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Speedy Atkins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

I've got Volkov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
