PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Uryan Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor McGregor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Uryan Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Conor McGregor!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Dmitry Maklakov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGregor scores with a jab to the jaw.
Nice uppercut there from Hall.
McGregor throws a right hand that Hall ducks under and follows up with a left that Hall also avoids with ease.
Hall half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Hall throws a sloppy body shot
and Hall takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Hall works the jab nicely.
Hall lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Hall gets a takedown into half guard.
McGregor scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Hall manages to mount him!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hall controlling the pace for now.

McGregor wants to control but Hall is having none of it.
Hall throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for McGregor because Hall loaded up on that one.
Hall prevents McGregor from getting the reversal.

Hall is working for a guillotine from mount but McGregor frees his head quite easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGregor is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Hall takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
McGregor tries to lock up and control but Hall gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hall has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
McGregor wants to control but Hall is having none of it.
McGregor looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Hall's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hall tries to clinch up but McGregor circles away and keeps his distance.
McGregor walks into a jab.
McGregor swings away with a leg kick that misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hall. McGregor does a little dance to reset his feet.

Conor McGregor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Hall decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in McGregor's guard.
Hall is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Hall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McGregor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGregor is looking to sweep but instead, Hall has passed into half guard.
McGregor wants to get back to full guard.
McGregor is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Hall seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Hall.

Hall seems to be working for a kimura but McGregor defends the submission attempt.
Hall is controlling the pace.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
McGregor pushes Hall off looking to stand but Hall dives back in and keeps control.

McGregor has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hall is working away from the top position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
McGregor tries a head kick but it misses.
Hall cracks McGregor with an open hand slap.

Hall gets a double leg takedown into McGregor's guard.
McGregor is looking to stand back up but Hall counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by McGregor.

McGregor tries to get to full guard but Hall has control of the leg.
Hall missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hall controlling the pace.
McGregor trying to control here.
Hall with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Hall is trying to work for a kimura but McGregor is defending well.
Hall looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McGregor tries to roll over but Hall keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Uryan Hall dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


The crowd cheers as Hall lands an impressive looking overhand right. McGregor doesn't seem phased though.
Hall moves out of range as McGregor strikes.
Hall appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Hall closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Hall is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGregor is in trouble now - Hall has advanced to mount!

Uryan Hall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

McGregor tries to improve his position but instead Hall has taken his back!
Hall is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McGregor can do to turn this around?

Hall is cranking McGregor's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for McGregor! He's tightened the choke and McGregor is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Uryan Hall!
A relieved looking Uryan Hall thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
