Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cale Downes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mad Max (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Max has chosen Graveyard Symphony as his entrance music. Mad Max has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cale Downes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mad Max!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Max is looking to clinch but Downes is avoiding it.
Downes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Max lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Downes avoids a punch combination nicely.
Max dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Cale Downes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Downes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Max defends it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Max lands a nice looking body shot.
Downes avoids a punch combination nicely.

Max scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Downes shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Max napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Downes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Downes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Downes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Max, who protects the arm well.
Downes sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Max is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Downes is looking to take a break and control but Max is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Max is pushing Downes's head away, looking to escape. Downes manages to hold on to the position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Downes in side control, throwing shots but Max defends.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Downes tries for a kimura but Max is defending well.

Downes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Max, who protects the arm well.

Downes working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Downes has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Max!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Max really wants to buck Downes off and get back to his feet.
Downes raining down shots from the mount!
Downes looking to control and managing it successfully.
Downes in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
BOOM! Downes connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Downes working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Max is trying to stand up.

Downes with shots to the head and body - Max looks very uncomfortable down there.


Max is rocked!
Downes tries to control but Max wriggling away.
Max is still in real trouble! Can Downes finish him?

Downes has hold of Max's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Max manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Downes is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Max to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Max shrugs it off.
Max seems to have recovered his senses.
Downes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Max is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cale Downes dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Downes has his takedown stuffed
and Max counters with a two punch combo.

Downes fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Max to the ground. Downes is now in Max's guard.
Downes is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Max can do to turn this around?
Max is looking to stand up but Downes isn't so interested in that idea.
Downes chips away with some ground and pound.

Downes gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Downes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Max manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Downes tries to close the distance and clinch but Max swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Nice takedown defense from Max. No joy for Downes on that attempt.
Despite the aggression on Max's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Max comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Downes dives in and grabs Max's left leg, looking for a takedown. Max pushes down on Downes's head and hops out.

Max is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Downes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Max appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Max tests Downes's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Downes shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Max but Max pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Max swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Mad Max seems to be getting the better of the standup.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Max slaps away a takedown attempt from Downes, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Downes has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Max clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Max dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Max throws a series of punches but Downes moves out of range.
Mad Max is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Downes wants to clinch
and Max counters with a series of strikes. Downes will be more careful next time no doubt.
Max connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Downes's hands.
Max stuffs the takedown attempt from Downes. Downes gets slowly back to his feet.
Downes is looking to clinch.
Max is looking for the big counter here.
Max is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Downes rather than just go for the knockout.
Max shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Downes eats them both and turns towards Max to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Max throws a nice looking combination but Downes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Max throws a good cross that connects.

Downes scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Max seems a little lost for a moment, as Downes dominates the positioning.

Downes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Max knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Downes goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Max has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Downes but great work by Max.

Max decides to stand back up.
Max lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Downes fails in his attempt to clinch.
Despite the aggression on Max's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Max feints a jab promting Downes to slip. Max then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Downes slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Downes tries for a takedown but Max sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Max works Downes's body with a nice hook.
Max looks to land a body kick but Downes moved away.

Downes shoots in and gets a takedown into Max's guard.
Max wants to get back to his feet but Downes passes into half guard.
Max tries to kick Downes off but Downes keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Downes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Max keeps working.

Downes is trying to work for a kimura but Max is defending well.
Downes is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Max tries to kick Downes off but Downes keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Downes looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Downes lands strikes from half guard.

Downes is looking for a kimura here.

Mad Max comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Max has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
