PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Volya Nikolaev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Norman Parke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nikolaev's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Fever . Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 19 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Volya Nikolaev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Norman Parke!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Phil Schofield and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parke lands a nice looking kick to the body. Nikolaev takes a step back to recover.

Parke moves into range and clinches up with Nikolaev.
A short uppercut from Parke.
Nikolaev is trying to pull guard but Parke has him pressed against the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Parke.
Parke gets through Nikolaev's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Nikolaev changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Parke fights it off and pushes away nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Parke looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

A little feinted left hand from Nikolaev on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Nikolaev is trying hard to land a takedown here. Parke sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Nikolaev escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Parke gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Parke got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nikolaev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Parke has managed to get both his arms back between Nikolaev's legs - danger averted.
Parke is in close to Nikolaev's body, working some short punches and elbows.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A thudding body kick lands there by Parke!
Parke swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nikolaev bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Parke swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Parke uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nikolaev.

Nikolaev tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Parke was well out of range. Poor timing from Nikolaev.
Nikolaev cracks Parke with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Parke lands with an uppercut that bounces Nikolaev off the cage and back into range.
Nikolaev avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Norman Parke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Parke throws a front kick that sends Nikolaev stumbling back into the cage.
Nikolaev works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Nikolaev darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Parke is not content to let Nikolaev control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Norman Parke will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Parke bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Nikolaev's head backwards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Parke steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Nikolaev.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Parke, as that shot connected.

Parke scores with a jab. Nikolaev acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Horrible takedown attempt by Nikolaev or perhaps it was just good defense by Parke, which made it look bad.
Parke tries a quick counter leg kick but Nikolaev is wise to it.

That kick from Parke tenderised Nikolaev's leg. Nikolaev is trying to keep his angry face on.

Parke throws out a leg kick but Nikolaev moves out of range and Parke only half commits.

Nikolaev is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Parke defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Norman Parke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Nikolaev has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Parke can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Volya Nikolaev.
I think Parke has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
