PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Quin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taneli Hauki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quin comes to the cage accompanied by Captain Jack - Iko Iko. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Quin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Taneli Hauki!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quin walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Quin walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Quin fails to land with a series of punches.
Hauki looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Quin, as that shot connected.
Quin lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Quin with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Hauki missing with a left hand there. Quin was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Quin throws the left hand but Hauki avoids the punch easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hauki! But no joy.
Hauki lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Matt Quin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A low kick from Hauki misses

and Quin counters with a single leg into guard. Hauki didn't expect that.
Quin tries to free his leg and advance position but Hauki is retaining full guard.
Quin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Quin passes into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Quin wants to free his trapped foot but Hauki is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Quin seems to be looking for submissions.
Quin stalling away here and it's allowed Hauki to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quin slips nicely into half guard.
Quin working the head and body with strikes.
Hauki pushes Quin off looking to stand but Quin dives back in and keeps control.

Quin working over Hauki with some ground and pound. Hauki looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hauki is staying active underneath Quin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Hauki is refusing to be controlled, as Quin sits in half guard.
Quin lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Quin is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Quin is pressing down on Hauki's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hauki is holding on for now.

Quin missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Quin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Quin looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Hauki has hold of Quin's hands but Quin slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Quin is nestled in close to Hauki, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Quin is trying to control the action in half guard but Hauki is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hauki wants to stand back up but Quin manages to pass into side control.
Hauki wants to get back to his feet but Quin drags him back down.
Quin scores with a couple of short elbows.

Quin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Quin takes a little break here. Hauki wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Quin trying to control the action but Hauki is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Quin dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Hauki misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Quin.
Quin loads up on a big right hand but Hauki slips the punch.
It seemed like Hauki was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Quin throws a looping overhand right but Hauki ducks down to avoid it.
Quin lands a jab to the nose.
Hauki moves away from the strike by Quin.
Hauki swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Quin fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hauki looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Quin moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Quin throws a series of punches but Hauki avoids them all with ease.
Matt Quin is winning the standup battle so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hauki misses with a low kick.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Quin!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Quin shoots in looking for a takedown. Hauki tries to sprawl out of it but Quin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hauki manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Quin throws a lazy uppercut
and Hauki counters with a good low kick that Quin was not able to check.
A punch combination from Quin misses.
Quin connects with a looping right hand.
Hauki defending well as Quin loads up on a big left hand.
Quin takes a swing at Hauki's ribcage but misses.
Quin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Quin fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Hauki on the side of the head.
Quin bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hauki's head backwards.
Hauki throws a hook to the side of Quin's head but Quin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hauki fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Hauki throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Quin on the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Quin looks to land a right hand but Hauki moved out of range.
Quin punishes Hauki's body with a nice straight punch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hauki defending well as Quin loads up on a big left hand.
Quin fails with a takedown attempt.
Quin slips a jab from Hauki.
Quin misses with a looping left.
Quin scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Quin walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hauki enables Quin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hauki manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hauki wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Quin manages to pass to side control.
Quin is taking a breather. Hauki says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Quin working over Hauki with some ground and pound. Hauki looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hauki is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Quin scores with a couple of nice shots.
Hauki pushes Quin off looking to stand but Quin dives back in and keeps control.
Quin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Quin landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Quin trying to control the action but Hauki is working from the bottom.
Hauki looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Quin wants to control but Hauki is keeping him busy.
Quin trying to mount his opponent but Hauki defends it.
Hauki is in trouble now - Quin has advanced to mount!
Quin in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Matt Quin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Quin postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hauki looks a forlorn figure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Quin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Quin takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Quin misses the jab.
Hauki keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hauki looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Quin throws a hook but Hauki blocks it.
Hauki dodges the punch combination from Quin.
Hauki throws out a counter right but Quin avoids it with no problem.

Taneli Hauki is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Quin on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Quin just misses with a punch to the body.
Hauki scores with a jab.
Quin connects with a single shot there.
Quin misses with a lunging right hand
and Hauki cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Quin on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Quin uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hauki.
Oh Quin is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Quin seems to have got his legs back now.
Quin swings for the body but Hauki moves out of range.
Quin staying out of range there.
Quin gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Hauki gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Taneli Hauki!
Taneli Hauki tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
