Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brett Helix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brett Helix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mr Ward!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Helix throws a low kick but Ward moves out of range easily.
Helix scores with a crisp jab that stopped Ward in his tracks.
Helix stuffs the takedown.
Helix appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Helix fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ward looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Ward throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Helix's head.
Ward shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Helix as he jumps to the side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Helix dives in and scores a takedown into Ward's guard.
Helix postures up in Ward's guard and throws a big left but Ward blocks it.
Helix stays in close to Ward's body and controls the position.

Helix working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Helix accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ward working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Helix.

Ward not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Helix cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Ward counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Helix is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Ward pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ward throws a looping overhand right but Helix ducks down to avoid it.
A big right from Helix misses.
Ward looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Helix lands with a shot to the body.
Ward throws a shot from downtown. Helix moves away and avoids it.
Helix connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Ward checks a low kick from Helix.

Nice defenses there by Helix.
Helix looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Ward is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Helix connects with a good right hand that stumbles Ward. Ward circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Brett Helix seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ward ducks under a wild hook from Helix.
Ward gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Helix throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Ward looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

Helix throws a jab but it's blocked by Ward.

Ward shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Helix but Helix pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Brett Helix has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mr Ward.
Ward throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Helix takes a swing at Ward's ribcage but misses.
Ward wants to counter with a clinch but Helix pushes him away.
Helix misses with a wild body shot.
Ward throws a fast counter high kick but Helix manages to duck under it in time.
Helix takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Helix is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ward.
Ward feints a counter leg kick.
Ward shoots and misses
and Helix connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Helix misses with a wild body shot.
Ward throws out a counter right but Helix avoids it with no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ward tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Helix cracks the inside of Ward's front leg.
Ward blocks a low kick nicely.
Nice cross by Helix.

Helix drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Helix sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Ward is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ward tries to improve position but can't.
Ward sneaks back into half guard.
Helix looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Helix is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Ward wants to improve his position but Helix is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ward is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Helix pulls his head out easily.
Ward is refusing to be controlled, as Helix sits in half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Helix lands a nice short elbow.
Ward is trying to maintain the position but Helix is very close to passing his half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Helix missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Helix wants to pass the guard but Ward is defending well.
Helix stalling away here and it's allowed Ward to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Helix is looking to work some ground and pound but Ward has wrist control.

Helix got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ward has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Helix has managed to get both his arms back between Ward's legs - danger averted.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Helix accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Helix wants to control from the top but Ward keeps moving.

Helix is pushing down on Ward's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ward is fighting to maintain full guard but Helix has managed to sneak the leg through.
Ward is looking to control Helix's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ward avoid being mounted?
Helix is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ward can do to turn this around?
Ward might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Helix haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A slow jab from Helix misses its intended target.
Ward tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Helix swivels and escapes.
Helix walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Ward checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Ward takes a jab right on the kisser.
Helix lands a slapping body shot.
Ward slips a straight right by Helix.
Helix uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Ward thows a left - swing and a miss!
Helix looks to land a body kick but Ward moved away.
Ward shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Helix but Helix pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ward stuns Helix with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brett Helix dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Helix ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Helix throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Helix throws out a loose jab but Ward uses good head movement to avoid it.
Helix thows a left - swing and a miss!
Helix misses with a lunging right hand
letting Ward counter with a right hand.
Helix takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Helix avoids the head kick by Ward.

Helix ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ward moves away.
Helix lands with a right hand.

Helix throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Ward throws a head kick that half lands.
Ward throws a head kick that misses.
Helix misses with a leg kick
and Ward counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Ward takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Ward scores with a head kick.
Ward pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Helix swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Helix gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
A shot to the liver by Helix. Beautiful body shot.

The fighters circling - Helix throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Ward looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Helix throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ward takes the fight into the clinch.
Helix lands a left hand.

Helix has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ward regains guard immediately.
Helix looking to sit in guard and control but Ward gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Helix is pulling down on Ward's head. It's preventing any offense from Ward, at least for the moment.

Helix controls Ward momentarily but Ward frees himself.

Helix looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mr Ward has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ward passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Helix is trying to control Ward's posture but Ward avoids it.
Helix sneaks back into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ward missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Ward is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Helix to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Helix looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ward is one step ahead there.
Ward trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Helix has his foot on Ward's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ward works his way back into a safe position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brett Helix.
Well Helix has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
