PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kim Jong Un (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rudi Dassler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jong Un's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Aegukka. Rudi Dassler will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kim Jong Un!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rudi Dassler!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dassler fails with a takedown attempt.
Jong Un explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dassler takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Jong Un gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Dassler throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jong Un works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Dassler throws an elbow that misses. Jong Un uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Dassler's guard. Nice move by Jong Un!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jong Un slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dassler drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jong Un looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jong Un looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jong Un!

Dassler felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Dassler goes for a double leg but Jong Un avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jong Un continues to drive forward.
A little feinted left hand from Jong Un on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Jong Un is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Dassler.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dassler accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Dassler wants to pass the guard but Jong Un is keeping the position.
Jong Un is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Dassler missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jong Un is on top in guard.


Dassler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jong Un doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jong Un manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jong Un gets to mount! Dassler was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Jong Un has the hooks in. Dassler is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Kim Jong Un overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dassler is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jong Un pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Dassler tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jong Un swivels and escapes.
Dassler uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jong Un.

Jong Un works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.


It looks like Rudi Dassler has been cut.
Dassler tries for a takedown but Jong Un sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kim Jong Un has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rudi Dassler.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jong Un pushes Dassler up against the cage in a clinch.
Jong Un lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Jong Un scores with a shoulder strike.
Dassler jumps guard but Jong Un stands there with Dassler around his waist. Dassler gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Dassler has clasped his hands together around Jong Un's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
You can see the frustration on Jong Un's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
I wouldn't like to be where Jong Un is right now.

Dassler is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jong Un has escaped the position, nice work there.

Dassler thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jong Un has one of Dassler's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.

Dassler swings around for an armbar but Jong Un sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Dassler's guard.

Dassler is looking for a sweep. Jong Un is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jong Un in particular looking to stall.
Jong Un continues to stall.

Dassler is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Jong Un jumps into side control!
Jong Un is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dassler can do to turn this around?

Well Jong Un has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
