PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Vaugh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tearrius George (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vaugh kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bad Day. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Vaugh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tearrius George!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
George on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
George misses with a hook.
A jab from Vaugh finds it's way through George's defenses.
Vaugh checks the leg kick nicely there.
George has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Vaugh is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Vaugh tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
George takes a swing at Vaugh's ribcage but misses.
Vaugh wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
George swings away with a leg kick that misses.

George blocks a jab.
George loads up on a big right hand but Vaugh slips the punch.
Vaugh cracks George with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Vaugh moves into range and clinches up with George.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Vaugh jumps guard.
Vaugh tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Vaugh keeping moving, preventing George from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vaugh is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vaugh sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed George's guard.
George won't allow Vaugh to pass to mount.
George is trying is best to control the position here.

Vaugh is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and George reverses the position - he's now on top in Vaugh's guard.

George is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Vaugh wants to sweep but no luck.
Vaugh wants to improve his position but instead George has moved into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

George not doing much here.
George's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Vaugh wants to control but George is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with George in particular looking to stall.
We've been hearing good reports from Vaugh's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
George winds up and cracks Vaugh with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
George seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vaugh does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Vaugh is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute George jumps into side control!

That was a close round but I would say that Michael Vaugh will probably get the nod.

Vaugh changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. George tries to avoid it but Vaugh manages to keep hold of a leg and drag George to the ground. George escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

George tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Vaugh manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
George throws a looping overhand right but Vaugh ducks down to avoid it.
Vaugh takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

George fakes the leg kick and cracks Vaugh in the body.

and Vaugh counters with a nice uppercut.
Vaugh pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Vaugh uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from George.
Vaugh throws a counter high kick but George was just alert enough to avoid it.
Michael Vaugh is winning the standup battle so far.
The fighters circle momentarily. George darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
George scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Vaugh doesn't seem bothered though.

George swats away the attempt to clinch by Vaugh.

Vaugh misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
George works over Vaugh's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Michael Vaugh has been cut.
Vaugh tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
George appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Vaugh avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Vaugh shoots in looking for a takedown but George manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Vaugh's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for George. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

George wants to clinch up but Vaugh keeps it at a distance.
Vaugh bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of George's head.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vaugh is looking to advance position but George won't allow it.
Vaugh seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but George does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

George is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
George is still trying to improve position.
Vaugh takes George's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, George is in trouble.
