PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luigi Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lou Hole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hole comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Louie Louie/ Motorhead kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Luigi Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Lou Hole!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hole attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Hole throws a head kick that misses.
Hole throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Hole is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Bates.
Hole defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bates.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bates.
Hole thows a left - swing and a miss!
Nice uppercut lands for Hole. That snapped Bates's head back.
Hole takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Hole throws a shot to the body.
Hole misses with a hook. Bates ducked under it nicely.
Bates dives in for a single leg takedown but Hole sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luigi Bates. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hole lands with a cross.

Bates shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bates showed some decent athleticism there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hole looks like he's trying to stand up.

Hole is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Bates looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Hole is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bates pulls his head out easily.
Bates moves into full mount! Hole won't be happy about that!
Hole stops Bates from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hole is looking to improve his position but Bates isn't that keen on the idea.

Bates trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Hole slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Hole has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bates is working away from the top position though.

Bates seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hole tries to roll over but Bates keeps him under control.
Hole flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Hole is trying to get back to full guard.
Hole wants to control but Bates is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Hole wants to improve his position but Bates is controlling well.

Hole looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Hole tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Bates has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Bates wants to finish this one by submission but Hole is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Bates.
Bates wants to take Hole's back here but Hole is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Bates jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hole manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Hole tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bates wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Bates goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hole has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bates but great work by Hole.
Bates on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Hole is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bates is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bates is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hole's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lou Hole dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Hole throws a body punch but Bates moves out of range.
Bates slips a jab from Hole.
Bates takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Hole pivots, looking for a leg kick but Bates is out of range and Hole settles back down.
Hole throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bates.

Hole throws Bates to one side and escapes!
Hole takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A decent looking cross lands there for Bates.
Lou Hole seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A big right from Hole misses.
Bates's jab looks to have found its range, popping Hole under the eye.
Hole throws a hook but Bates blocks it.
Hole misses with the combination.
Nice jab there from Hole.
Bates shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hole counters with a stiff right hand.

Bates uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hole.
Hole displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bates.
Hole loads up on a big right hand but Bates slips the punch.
Bates shoots in and drives through. Hole sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luigi Bates. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hole missing with a left hand there. Bates was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Bates swings for the body but Hole moves out of range.
Bates takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Bates throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hole's waist but Hole gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bates off to one side.

Bates ducks under a wild hook from Hole.
Bates looks to score with a jab to the body but Hole is just out of range.
Hole swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Bates shoots in and gets a takedown into Hole's guard.
Hole has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hole is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bates is aware though and is defending well.
Hole looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Bates trying to control but Hole is working from the bottom.
Hole thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Luigi Bates overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bates pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hole is keeping the position for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hole is not content to let Bates control the position.
Hole is pressing down on Bates's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Bates drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bates jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Hole wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Bates wants to control from the top but Hole keeps moving.

Hole is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bates defends well.

Hole has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bates is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hole.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lou Hole showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Bates closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hole is trying to maintain the position but Bates is very close to passing his half guard.
Bates seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hole does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hole is trying to escape back to his feet but Bates uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Bates is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Lou Hole is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hole is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Bates's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Bates's back!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Luigi Bates has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bates just trying to survive but Hole is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Hole is hanging on to Bates's back as he tries to escape.

I would just about give that final round to Lou Hole.
I've got Hole winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
