PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Eli Armis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Temitope Obama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armis comes to the cage accompanied by Mortal Kombat Theme. Temitope Obama will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eli Armis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Temitope Obama!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Eddie Farnsworth and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Obama misses with a body shot.

Armis decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Armis seems to be looking for submissions.
Armis blocks the strikes from Obama.
Obama trying to control here.
Armis works his way into side control.
Obama is trying to control Armis's posture but Armis avoids it.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Obama working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Obama lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Obama tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Obama has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Obama goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Armis rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Obama's guard! Nice work there by Armis!

Armis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Obama is just riding it out for now. Armis eventually gives up the hold.

Armis is trying to control the action in half guard but Obama is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Armis seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Armis scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Obama is not content to let Armis control the position.
Obama is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Eli Armis dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Obama throws a right and a left that Armis avoids nicely.
Armis throws a looping overhand right but Obama ducks down to avoid it.
Armis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Obama can do to turn this around?

A momentary lapse in concentration from Obama enables Armis to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Obama manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Obama escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Armis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Armis tries to pass to full mount but Obama defends it.

Obama is trying to maintain the position but Armis is very close to passing his half guard.
Obama is trying to control but Armis passes into side control!
Obama is not content to let Armis control the position.
Obama tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Armis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Armis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Obama doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Armis.

You get the feeling that Obama really doesn't like being in this position too much.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Obama is in all sorts of trouble here.
Obama is squirming around, avoiding Armis's attempts to control the action.
Armis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Obama is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Obama can't escape the position.
Obama tries to lock up and control but Armis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Armis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Armis with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Armis moves to take his opponent's back.
Obama breaks Armis's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Armis drives through with a takedown into Obama's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Armis postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Obama is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Armis, into his guard.

Obama is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Armis is forced to tap! Great finish!

A relieved looking Temitope Obama thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
