PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luis Machado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Feisal Aabi Hassan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machado kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Que safoda. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Luis Machado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Feisal Aabi Hassan!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machado tries to clinch but Aabi Hassan moves away

and Aabi Hassan counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aabi Hassan is pressing down on Machado's thigh, looking to free his foot. Machado is holding on for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Aabi Hassan might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Machado looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Aabi Hassan lands a nice short elbow.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Machado is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Aabi Hassan defends well.

Aabi Hassan wants to pass the guard but Machado is keeping the position.
Machado wants to stand up but Aabi Hassan is controlling him.

Machado looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Machado looks like he's trying to stand up.

Machado is defending against the submission attempts here by Aabi Hassan.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Machado has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Aabi Hassan off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

so Aabi Hassan counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Machado has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Aabi Hassan has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Aabi Hassan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Machado is trying to keep Aabi Hassan in close.

Aabi Hassan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Let's hope that Aabi Hassan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Aabi Hassan prevents Machado from standing back up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Aabi Hassan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Aabi Hassan is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Machado throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Aabi Hassan.

Aabi Hassan has taken the fight to the clinch.
Machado is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Aabi Hassan gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Machado regains guard.

Machado throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Aabi Hassan escapes and throws Machado's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Machado is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Aabi Hassan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Aabi Hassan is staying tight to Machado's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Machado seems a little lost for a moment, as Aabi Hassan dominates the positioning.

Aabi Hassan wants to stand but Machado has his arm trapped.

Machado bucks up and tries to throw Aabi Hassan off but instead Aabi Hassan has got his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Feisal Aabi Hassan will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Machado throws a lazy head kick

and Aabi Hassan counters with a single leg into guard. Machado didn't expect that.

Aabi Hassan has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Machado to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Aabi Hassan is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Machado pulls down on the head and he's put Aabi Hassan to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Luis Machado!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Luis Machado waved his t-shirt featuring Hellraiser Fightgear's logo in front of the cameras.
