Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shawn Jones!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones dives in and grabs Cook's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cook pushes down on Jones's head and hops out.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Cook, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Cook against the ropes but Cook circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jones is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cook sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
James Cook has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shawn Jones.

Cook has closed the distance and engaged Jones in a clinch.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cook seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

and Cook counters with a lovely straight right hand!

and Cook counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Cook is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Cook seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jones for as long as he can get away with.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cook not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cook is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

Cook is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Cook throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Cook takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Jones gets control of Cook's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jones will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cook sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.

Cook moves into range and clinches up with Jones.
Cook has Jones pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Jones manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

The referee calls for Cook to work.

Jones managing to block the knees to the body from Cook.

Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cook walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Cook drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cook slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Jones is breathing heavily.

Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cook is one step ahead there.
Cook is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jones can do to turn this around?

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cook pinned against the ropes. Cook gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Jones's coach down at Feed'em To The Lions was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Jones's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Cook is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Jones is defending well for now.

Jones gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cook is working Jones over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Jones isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Cook stacks Jones on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Cook!
Cook in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Jones is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Cook tries to move to mount but Jones blocks the move with his legs.

Cook connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Jones some visible discomfort.
Cook controls the position from side control.
Jones tries to bench press Cook off him but Cook keeps the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cook in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Shawn Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James Cook is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Cook tries to advance to mount but Jones instead regains half guard.
Cook is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

James Cook showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Cook has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

James Cook decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
