Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rick James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James comes into the arena with Super Freak blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rick James!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Damian John!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to John's calf.
John tries to clinch but James is having none of it.
James misses with a body kick.
Nice sprawl there from James as John shoots in.

John wants to clinch.
John tries for a takedown but James sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
James throws a sloppy head kick and John moves out of range easily.

James lands a big head kick that sends John tumbling to the mat! James takes a step backwards and waves John back to his feet - he wants the finish!


John is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
James lands with a thumping leg kick.
John is still on wobbly legs! Can James finish him?
John moves in looking to clinch but James pushes him off.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A good leg kick by James.
John tries to clinch but James moves out of range.
John seems to have recovered his senses.
James throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
As James backs off John throws a huge counter combo but James manages to avoid it all.
John will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
John walks forward, straight into a front kick from James.
James lands with a nice body kick.
James tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

John changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.
James circles away from the clinch attempt
and James counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Rick James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

James tries a head kick but it misses.
John lands with a kick to the ribs.
James pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
James misses with a body kick.
John tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.
John misses with a two punch combination.
John fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rick James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damian John.

James lands a nice looking body kick.
John shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. James defends it nicely.
John looks for the body kick but James saw that one coming.
James goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
John takes a kick to the side of the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
James misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick James dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rick James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
John goes for a double leg but James avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as James continues to drive forward.
John misses with a kick to the body
and James counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
James lands with a kick to the ribs.

James moves into range and clinches up with John.

This has been an exciting period of action!
A thudding body kick lands there by James!
James thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on John if he has to take too many more of those.
John rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but James moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
John has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from James.
John is breathing heavily.
James stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and James wants it to stay on the feet.
And James counters with a quick kick to the body but John blocks it.
James scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James fakes the leg kick and cracks John in the body.
John has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by James.
Both fighters circling a little - James finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
James misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
John takes a kick to the side of the head.
A slapping body kick lands there for James.
James lets loose with a powerful body kick. John will feel that in the morning.
James misses with a head kick.
John is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
James lands a brutal head kick. John looks out on his feet and James throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
