PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dmitry Boitsoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gegard Mousasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boitsoff's entrance music is My Domination. A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dmitry Boitsoff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 12 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gegard Mousasi!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Sam Margolis and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot lands for Mousasi.


It looks like Dmitry Boitsoff has been cut.
Mousasi tries to close the distance and clinch but Boitsoff swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Boitsoff attempts a counter takedown but Mousasi avoids it well and moves away.
Boitsoff takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Boitsoff looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mousasi is staying active underneath Boitsoff, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Boitsoff takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Mousasi trying to hold on to Boitsoff's head to control him but Boitsoff postures up.
Boitsoff trying to mount his opponent but Mousasi defends it.
Boitsoff thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mousasi's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Boitsoff is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mousasi is not content to let Boitsoff control the position.
Boitsoff is taking a breather. Mousasi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Boitsoff throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Boitsoff is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Boitsoff not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Boitsoff is keen to just control but Mousasi is a slippery customer.
Boitsoff takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mousasi trying to control from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mousasi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mousasi won't allow Boitsoff to pass to mount.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Boitsoff is keen to just control but Mousasi is a slippery customer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boitsoff lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Boitsoff fails with a takedown attempt.
Mousasi ducks right into an uppercut from Boitsoff.
Mousasi misses with a wild combination.

Mousasi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mousasi lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

We've been hearing good reports from Boitsoff's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Mousasi stopping the sweep attempt from Boitsoff.
Mousasi postures up and lands a big shot to Boitsoff's brow.
Mousasi trying to control the position from guard on top but Boitsoff is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boitsoff might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mousasi drops back looking for a leg! Boitsoff is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Boitsoff manages to kick Mousasi off! Mousasi jumps back into Boitsoff's guard.

Boitsoff wants to sweep here but Mousasi controlling him for the moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Boitsoff working for a triangle but Mousasi defends it easily.
Boitsoff looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Boitsoff has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mousasi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Boitsoff is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mousasi defends well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mousasi is looking to work some ground and pound but Boitsoff has wrist control.
Boitsoff is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Boitsoff is working hard here to advance position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dmitry Boitsoff will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Mousasi misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Boitsoff is defended easily by Mousasi.
Nice straight punches there by Boitsoff. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Boitsoff.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Boitsoff.

Boitsoff decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mousasi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mousasi.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boitsoff wants to control from the top but Mousasi keeps moving.
Boitsoff is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Mousasi had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Boitsoff defends it easily.

Mousasi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Boitsoff's guard.

Mousasi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boitsoff has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mousasi has managed to get both his arms back between Boitsoff's legs - danger averted.
Boitsoff wants to improve his position but instead Mousasi has moved into half guard.

Boitsoff wants to sweep here but Mousasi controlling him for the moment.

Mousasi forces his way into half guard.
Mousasi is trying to control the action in half guard but Boitsoff is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Dmitry Boitsoff overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mousasi perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Boitsoff is trying to control the position here. Mousasi has hold of a guillotine from the top though... oh, that looks naaaaasty, will Boitsoff tap? Yes he will! The fight is all over! Mousasi jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd.
