PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Bones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Emmanuel Nwamadi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emmanuel Nwamadi told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Bones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Emmanuel Nwamadi!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Ackerman and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nwamadi uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bones.

Nwamadi closes the distance and clinches.
Bones struggles to land a body shot inside as Nwamadi controls his hands.

Bones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Nice jab there from Nwamadi.
No luck for Bones with that takedown attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Nwamadi. Those never looked like landing.
Emmanuel Nwamadi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bones keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bones closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bones lands in his opponent's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Nwamadi pulls Bones in close to prevent any damage.

Nwamadi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Nwamadi wants to control the position but Bones says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Bones is looking to advance position but Nwamadi won't allow it.

Bones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nwamadi's head.
Still in half guard, Bones seems content to control.

Bones is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Nwamadi has managed to free his arm - good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Bones drops down looking for a counter takedown but Nwamadi sprawls and moves away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bones misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Bones is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nwamadi can do to turn this around?

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nwamadi can do anything to dispel that myth.
The referee warns Nwamadi that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Bones is landing with some decent strikes but Nwamadi is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bones cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Bones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Bones takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Nwamadi scores with a punch to the head.
Bones is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nwamadi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Nwamadi! But no joy.
Nwamadi bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bones's head.

Nwamadi tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jon Bones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Emmanuel Nwamadi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Bones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Bones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nwamadi for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Nwamadi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
