The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mathiesen misses with a combination

and Mcdaniel counters by clinching up.

Mathiesen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mathiesen misses with a takedown attempt - Mcdaniel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Mathiesen tries to sprawl but Mcdaniel drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Mathiesen makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Mcdaniel closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Mathiesen scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Mcdaniel manages to mount him!
Mathiesen is trying to reverse the position but instead Mcdaniel has taken his back - oops!
Mcdaniel has the hooks in. Mathiesen is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
