PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk has chosen FreeBird as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Thomas Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Garcia throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Hawk has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Garcia is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Hawk fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Garcia manages to avoid it.
Hawk avoids the body shot from Garcia.
Hawk misses with a low kick.
Hawk moves out of range of the strikes.
Hawk moves away from the strike by Garcia.
Hawk throws a jab but it's blocked by Garcia.
A solid body kick from Hawk.
Garcia misses with a right hand
and Hawk counters with a thumping low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A lazy body kick from Hawk
and Garcia counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Hawk throws a head kick that misses.
Garcia paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Horrible takedown attempt by Garcia or perhaps it was just good defense by Hawk, which made it look bad.

Hawk throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Garcia misses with a right hand
and Hawk counters with a leg kick.
Hawk throws a leg kick but Garcia sees it coming and moves out of range.
A low kick from Hawk misses

and Garcia counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Garcia.

Garcia lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Hawk keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Garcia's efforts to push away.
Hawk misses with a hook to the ribs.
Hawk is looking to break free of the clinch but Garcia has double underhooks.
Garcia tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Garcia blocks a body shot from Hawk.
Hawk doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Hawk tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Garcia's elbow.
Garcia lands on the inside with an uppercut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hawk misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Garcia is pushing Hawk up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Garcia misses with a hook to the ribs.
Garcia blocks a body shot from Hawk.
Hawk has a couple of punches blocked by Garcia.
Garcia working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Garcia is trying to push Hawk away but Hawk has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hawk blocks a body shot from Garcia.

Garcia has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hawk is trying to keep an underhook but Garcia manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Garcia will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Garcia is looking for a kimura here.
Hawk is concentrating on defense, preventing Garcia from advancing position.
Hawk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Garcia is pressing down on Hawk's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hawk is holding on for now.

Garcia is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hawk sees it coming and defends easily.
Hawk won't allow Garcia to pass to mount.
Hawk tries to kick Garcia off but Garcia keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Garcia is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Hawk is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Gabriel Garcia!
An out of breath Gabriel Garcia thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
