Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Karter!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Machado!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machado takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Machado gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Karter counters with a stiff right hand.
A shot to the body from Machado misses
letting Karter counter with a right hand.
Machado throws a half hearted mid kick.
The fighters circle momentarily. Karter darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Karter looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Karter lands a jab to Machado's midsection.

Machado looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Machado is working for a kimura but Karter is defending it quite comfortably.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Karter is defending against the submission attempts here by Machado.

Machado seems to be looking for submissions.

Machado is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Karter defends it well.
Machado trying to mount his opponent but Karter defends it.
Karter is not content to let Machado control the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Machado is looking for a kimura but Karter is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Machado to get the leverage.
Machado wants to control but Karter is keeping him busy.

Machado is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Karter still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Karter has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Machado tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Karter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Machado is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Karter is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Machado tries to lock up and control but Karter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Karter wants to take Machado's back here but Machado is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Machado is desperately trying to improve his position but Karter has a good base and remains in mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Machado sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Machado wants to control but Karter is keeping busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Karter performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Machado looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Karter tries to pass to full mount but Machado defends it.

Machado looking for subs from the bottom but Karter mounts him!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Machado is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Karter dominated that round.
That's time! Karter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Karter throws a good cross that connects.
Karter throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And Machado tries to counter it with a takedown but Karter pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Machado with a poor takedown
and Karter cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


Machado is rocked!
Karter sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Machado's defenses. It connects perfectly with Machado's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Chris Karter!
Chris Karter retains his featherweight title!
Chris Karter decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
