Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Walter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes to the cage accompanied by Therion - Sitra Ahra. Mike Smith has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 25 - 1, fighting out of London, Peter Walter!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walter takes a kick to the side of the head.


It looks like Peter Walter has been cut.
Walter shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Walter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Walter takes one to the chin there.
Horrible takedown attempt by Walter or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith, which made it look bad.
Smith throws a quick counter head kick but Walter was just out of range.
Walter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smith as he avoids it easily.
Smith appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Mike Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Walter.

Walter scores with a head kick. Smith tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walter throws a sloppy head kick
and Smith counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Walter does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Walter misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Smith thinks about countering with a head kick.
Walter takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Smith lands a really nice looking cross but Walter seems unphased.

A head punch blocked on the inside by Walter.
Smith lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Walter or not.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Walter is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Walter's coach down at SWF GYM - JUDO 'n' MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Walter's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Walter fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.
Walter tries to pull guard but Smith holds him up against the cage and eventually Walter drops back down to his feet.

Walter is trying to force a seperation but Smith has the dominant position.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Smith scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Walter misses with the combination.
Walter shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Walter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Walter has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Smith finds it's way round the side to connect with Walter's head.

Smith is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Smith changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Smith darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Walter closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smith to the mat! Smith manages to get full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Walter postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Smith is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Walter, into his guard.
Walter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Walter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Walter can do to turn this around?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Walter keeps control of the position as Smith tries to break free.

Walter looking to break Smith's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Smith remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Walter will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Walter is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Well, with Walter on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Smith is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Peter Walter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith jabs Walter right on the nose. Walter blinks but takes it well.

Peter Walter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Walter drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Smith follows Walter to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Mike Smith really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Mohito Fightwear logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
