PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shael Connen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Kvasov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kvasov is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Diskoteka avaria-Nebo. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Shael Connen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 36 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roman Kvasov!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kvasov misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Connen.

Connen shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kvasov sprawls well. Kvasov wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Connen gets slowly back to his feet.
Kvasov appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

A counter left hand to the body from Connen misses its target.
Kvasov tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Connen paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Connen dives in for a single leg takedown but Kvasov sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Roman Kvasov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kvasov. Connen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Connen or perhaps it was just good defense by Kvasov, which made it look bad.
Connen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kvasov tries to counter with a clinch but Connen shakes him off and moves away.
Kvasov swings for the body but Connen moves out of range.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Connen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kvasov's guard.
Connen with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Connen stops Kvasov from standing up.
Connen is looking to work some ground and pound but Kvasov has wrist control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Connen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Connen throws a strike but Kvasov rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Shael Connen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Roman Kvasov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Connen is rocked!

No joy there for Kvasov, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Oh Connen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Connen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kvasov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kvasov scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Connen doesn't seem bothered though.

Connen shoots for a double leg takedown but Kvasov sprawls well. He's pushed Connen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kvasov ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Connen's jaw. Connen's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Kvasov does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Roman Kvasov!
