PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jakub Lubanski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pencil Neck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Neck has chosen Welcome to the jungle as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jakub Lubanski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 38 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pencil Neck!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neck misses with a body shot
letting Lubanski counter with a right hand.
Neck misses with a double jab.
Lubanski is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Neck shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lubanski as he jumps to the side.
Neck misses with a left hand
and Lubanski counters with a stiff right hand.
Lubanski blocks a head kick by Neck.
Neck throws a right and a left that Lubanski avoids nicely.
Neck has his takedown stuffed
and Lubanski counters with a lovely straight right hand!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Neck avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Lubanski connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Neck's hands.
Neck throws a predictable looking body shot
and Neck takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Neck shoots for a double leg takedown but Lubanski sprawls well. He's pushed Neck's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Lubanski was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Jakub Lubanski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pencil Neck.

and Lubanski counters with a single leg into guard. Neck didn't expect that.
Neck wants to control the position but Lubanski says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Neck holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Neck is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Lubanski asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Lubanski tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lubanski has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Lubanski has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neck is not content to let Lubanski control the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee asks Lubanski politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Lubanski prefers to stall for the moment though.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Neck is pushing Lubanski's head away, looking to escape. Lubanski manages to hold on to the position though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Lubanski closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Neck's guard.
Neck tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Neck shoots in for a takedown but Lubanski shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Neck tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lubanski sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Neck somewhat.

It looks like Lubanski has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Well Lubanski has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
