PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Quin Kenobi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and EA Poe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poe tried to score with a low kick but Kenobi checks it.
Poe pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Poe scores with a crisp jab that stopped Kenobi in his tracks.
Kenobi on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Poe swings widly with a right hand
and Kenobi counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Poe comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Poe fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Poe lands an overhand right.
Kenobi gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Kenobi bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Poe throws an overhand right that lands on Kenobi's shoulder, as Kenobi tries to avoid the shot.
Poe shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Kenobi eats them both and turns towards Poe to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Poe lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Poe misses with a two punch combination.
Poe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kenobi moves away.
EA Poe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Poe scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kenobi doesn't seem bothered though.
Poe's corner calls for a 1-2. Poe obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Poe jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Kenobi slips a straight right by Poe.
Poe lands a really nice looking cross but Kenobi seems unphased.
The fighters circling - Poe throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Poe wants to slow Kenobi down by chopping away at his legs.

Poe gets caught flat footed, as Kenobi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kenobi postures up in Poe's guard and throws a big left but Poe blocks it.
Poe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kenobi is working Poe over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Poe can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kenobi controls the pace.

Poe swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kenobi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nice takedown defense from Poe. No joy for Kenobi on that attempt.
Poe throws a nice looking combination but Kenobi bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A punch lands to the side of Kenobi 's head but he takes it in his stride.
EA Poe is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Poe throws a combination. Kenobi tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Kenobi shoots in for a takedown but Poe shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Quin Kenobi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Poe stuns Kenobi with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Poe scores with a jab. Kenobi acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Poe misses with a double jab.
Kenobi tries to counter with a takedown but Poe is quick to defend against it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kenobi takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Kenobi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Kenobi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Poe tries to avoid it but Kenobi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Poe to the ground. Poe escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Poe scores with a jab to the jaw.
Poe moves out of range as Kenobi throws a body kick.
Kenobi walks into a jab.
The fighters circling - Poe throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Poe throws a looping overhand right but Kenobi ducks down to avoid it.
Kenobi feinted with a counter takedown.
Kenobi is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Poe.
Good exchange - Poe coming out on top.
The crowd cheers as Poe lands an impressive looking overhand right. Kenobi doesn't seem phased though.

Poe throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kenobi sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Poe scores with a punch to the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Poe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Poe wants it to stay on the feet.
Poe looks to land a combination but Kenobi avoids it well.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kenobi is defended easily by Poe.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Poe! But no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

EA Poe dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kenobi takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Kenobi walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Kenobi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Poe looks to land a combination but Kenobi avoids it well.
Kenobi shoots in but no luck this time.
Kenobi takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Poe cracks a nice hook into Kenobi's ribs.
Kenobi tries to close the distance and clinch but Poe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
It seemed like Poe was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Poe connects with a looping right hand.

Kenobi is rocked!
Kenobi needs to keep his hands up - Poe had a free shot at his head there.
Oh Kenobi is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Quin Kenobi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Poe drops Kenobi with a big left hand! Kenobi is injured, injured bad! Poe jumps in and finished him with strikes! The fight is over!

A determined EA Poe didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
