PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darrell Solomon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anderson has chosen Monster by Skillet as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Darrell Solomon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson tries for a takedown but Solomon circles away easily
and Solomon counters with a straight right hand.

Anderson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Solomon to the ground. Anderson is now in Solomon's guard.
Solomon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Anderson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Solomon is keeping the position for now.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Solomon holds on and takes a little breather.
Anderson wants to control from the top but Solomon keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Solomon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Anderson controls the pace.
Anderson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Solomon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Anderson manages to get himself to full guard.

Solomon postures up in Anderson's guard and throws a big left but Anderson blocks it.
Anderson is trying to control the position but Solomon postures up.

Solomon drops back looking for a leg! Anderson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Anderson manages to kick Solomon off! Solomon jumps back into Anderson's guard.
Anderson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Solomon throws a big elbow that misses.
Anderson trying to keep a closed guard but Solomon is proving a slippery customer.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Solomon loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Solomon throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Anderson rushes Solomon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Anderson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
John Anderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Anderson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Anderson shoots and misses
and Anderson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Anderson blocks a head kick by Solomon.

Anderson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Solomon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Anderson looks winded!
Solomon sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Solomon looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Solomon wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Solomon kicks Anderson off and gets back to his feet.
Solomon lands with a kick to the temple. Anderson shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Anderson misses with a low kick.
Solomon tries to counter with a takedown but Anderson is quick to defend against it.
Anderson tries to close the distance and clinch but Solomon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Solomon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Solomon wants it to stay on the feet.
Darrell Solomon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Anderson.
Solomon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Anderson but Anderson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Anderson steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Solomon.
Solomon shoots for a takedown but Anderson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Solomon shoots in but no luck this time.
Anderson let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Anderson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Solomon went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Anderson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Solomon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Solomon tries a head kick but it misses.
Anderson closes the distance but Solomon moves to the side
and Solomon counters with a nice low kick that buckles Anderson's knee momentarily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Solomon shoots for a double leg takedown but Anderson sprawls well. He's pushed Solomon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Solomon avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nice takedown defense from Solomon. No joy for Anderson on that attempt.
Solomon attempts a counter takedown but Anderson avoids it well and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Darrell Solomon will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Solomon clinches with his opponent.

Solomon breaks the clinch.
Solomon takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown but Solomon shows good takedown defense.
Anderson moves in looking to clinch but Solomon pushes him off.
Anderson takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Solomon closes the distance and pushes Anderson back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anderson goes for a takedown attempt but Solomon pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Anderson clinches.

Solomon tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Anderson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Anderson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Solomon avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Darrell Solomon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Anderson.
Anderson is breathing heavily.
Anderson pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Solomon tries for a takedown. No joy.
Solomon wants a takedown.

Anderson breaks from the clinch.
Anderson tries for a takedown but Solomon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Anderson tries to close the distance and clinch but Solomon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Anderson darts in and clinches Solomon up against the cage.

Solomon pulls guard.
Darrell Solomon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Anderson has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Solomon to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Anderson is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Solomon pulls down on the head and he's put Anderson to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Darrell Solomon!
John Anderson was interviewed post fight and said 'Thanks to my opponent for giving me this fight and thanks to the fans and I'll see yall next time.'.
